MEALWORMS - Raising Them the Easy Way

A few weeks ago I bought a "worm condo" from www.wormwrangler.com. I checked it tonight and the "bottom layer/first layer" of worms and compost is BEAUTIFUL - after only 2 weeks!!! It has been very easy, compact, and so far - very productive. I have mine in the garage right now, but plan on moving it to the coop as soon as the coop is completed. I'm going to get busy on meal worms now - my Blue Birds and chicks will be more than happy!

I've got some growing. My house is routinely between 70 and 80 degrees, so they should reproduce fast right? They came from the Petco refrigerator and seemed VERY thirsty the first day.

Edit: EEEEK I just went and checked on mine and their potato is moldy!! It has green fuzz on it!! Is this bad??? Maybe because of all the rain/humidity??

Otherwise the worms looked nice and fat and they seem to have molted some because there was empty skin shells. I've only had them in there since, uh, last Sunday? I think.

Moldy potatoes is normal. If they mold or dry up would depend on how moist the environment is.
I am not sure is you would want to leave them in there to decompose or not.
Too much moisture is not good for them either.

Try putting the shoebox on top of the fridge. It is a bit warmer there and it might speed things up. You also might have worms but they start VERY Small.

Really excited about this thread, sooooo easy and economical and the fun I know is coming just from feeding these en masse and watching the ensuing riot.

Question about the wheat germ preparation....Baked at what temp for how long?....
