Mean Chicken

SO I have a 5.5 month old chicken named Big Momma(RIR) and she is very sweet to me and my son, because we are the ones feeding her everyday...however she is NOT so nice to my husband, and is starting to get mean with the other chickens also( the other 5 chickens are Americana's and about 2 1/2 months younger). She jumps up at him(my hubz) feet first and bites the other chickens and like stands on them...she is not a rooster...at least I don't think so no cock-a-doodle-doo's yet, but also has not layed any eggs yet.

P.S> After reading this thread I think because I DO NOT have a rooster she is taking over the HCIC( Head Chicken In Charge) role. she is not drawing blood from the others or pulling feathers she just gets a little pushey when the others get to close to her when she is eating.. NOW she only does this when they are out in the yard free ranging. I only feed them in the coop and haven't noticed any fighting while they're in there. I attached a pic of her so you can see what she looks like Anything I can do to prevent this, all comments and suggestions would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks n advance!!..

I had the same problem with some Red Cochins. I just knew they were girls...until the spurs started to grow.
Her comb and waggles look a little large for a hen. A Vet would be able to put the issue to rest.

Not to steal the thread here, but does anyone's chickens get kinda mean towards the other chickens when its extremely hot outside?

I realize this is an older thread but found it because I was looking to see if anyone else has a mean chicken! One of my barred rocks is a you know what! She pecks and chases the Rhode Island Red and has pecked off the feathers on her poor little neck! We have 5 total and let them out into a pretty large area to roam everyday. If we didn't I think the little rhode would be dead by constant pecking!
I have found that using a super soaker when the meanness occurs has really worked well. It seems to occur less and less.
