Mean vs nice roosters

My rooster is very nice, looks after the ladies is very gentle with them. He's never done anything shifty towards me. He knows his name and will respond to it. Technically he's still a cockrel he won't be a rooster until April, so that makes him even better in my opinion. :)

The headgear on that guy is insane! He does look quite judgy...dont tell him i said that.
I have an authoritative, discerning judging look rooster who requires a minimum body reaction zone of at least two feet or he loses his marbles. He is nice when I am around and treats the girls pretty well. I really just keep him around because he doesn't like my mother which is just awesome!

Thanks! Amazingly enough, he was free from a woman from Iceland hence him being an Icelandic Rooster. I was so proud the day the official organization said he had one of the largest combs of an American breed Icelandic rooster in history! Sadly he lost 90% of it and most of his wattles to frostbite this year. We had a month of -20 weather and very damp. The rest of the chickens had little to no signs of frostbite but he just took it hard, I almost put him down he was suffering so badly. He came out of it as I couldn't give up on him but sadly lost his crown.

I've had a few mean tempered roosters. They were tasty. No human aggressive roo is ever allowed to stay here.

My avatar roo was a sweetie. He took good care of his girls, and loved his babies. His replacement cockerel is also a gentle spirit. He was schooled by the previous roo.

I know what you mean, and I would never knowing give away a mean aggressive rooster unless I knew that he was going to go into someones stew pot.

Excellent post. Mean tempered roos should not be allowed to play in the gene pool, EVER. And they should not be passed on to some one else's flock.
