MeanCheek's Flock

I've never had large fowl genuine Cochins, only bantams (Pekins). All the roos I've had have been really hard on the hens and sometimes aggressive with people, and the hens are just downright grumpy!

Where did you get them? Hatchery or breeder? My breeder Cochin bantams are the sweetest things, and the boys are what I'd call feisty, but not aggressive. The worst they do is peck every now and then, but they also stand at my feet to be picked up and let me stroke their feathers. All except Gus, who has a tough guy reputation to keep so he can't be seen being pet or held, but he'll maybe hop in my lap sometimes if I sit in his pen with him and his girls, as long as I don't tell anyone. 🤫

Just hatcheries, from whichever the feed stores get them. But my current ones are from Privett.
I'm sure yours, with their decent breeding, are better behaved.
And they're so cute, especially the silkied ones!

Aw, yeah, hatchery ones are kind of a wild card. My Mottled Cochin girls from Meyer Hatchery are definitely more moody and less cuddly than the breeder Cochins, and I didn't even keep the boys because they did become aggressive.

The silkieds are pretty adorable, aren't they? :love

What a cutie!! 😍 Do they accept belly rubs?

I don't know about that one, Chester, but Milky used to love belly rubs. She would roll over at your feet.
Chester and Hagan (the one by the rose) are Milky's brother and sister from the last litter (I almost said 'last brood').

Aw, I'm sorry she's been missing. :( Hopefully she shows up again.

My kitty, Casper, likes to sleep in all sorts of positions including like that picture of Chester and he at least tolerates belly rubs. It's hard to tell if he likes it or not because he's usually passed out when he's laying like that. 🤭

I do this all the time, talking to Casper or the family dog, or about something else entirely. Somehow chicken terminology always slips out. 🤣

Casper is such a beautiful cat!

I know, the strange looks I get
