Meanwhile in Russa

Because this is the stuff of nightmares, and since time immemorial, one of the ways people deal with fear and confusion is to laugh at it. It's a form of gallows humor.

I know about gallows humour but I haven't seen any of that regarding recent disasters in the US. Why poke fun at what has happened in Russia if it's not funny at home?

Ooh thaiturkey, you're walking that fine line again. As one Brit to another I feel the temptation.

The fine line is a reasonable one I think. I never laugh at events like this one and won't laugh at the next massacre, whichever country it happens in.

Because some people don't have the perspective to be able to laugh at themselves. Sometimes it takes a bit of distance to be able to do it. I agree, it's insensitive, and it really plays best to an audience that is familiar with the mind and the mind-set that it comes from.

But Americans do crack jokes about horrors at home - I believe the expression "going postal" came from the US, and the massacres that inspired it were also home-grown. I have heard some very biting and witty remarks made about recent events, but they weren't made in front of an international audience.

Morbid jokes are pretty normal in the US an yes the term "going postal" comes from the US postal worker shooting of the 90s.

It is very common for people in bad situations to make jokes about what happened. EMS an LEO, at least the ones I have worked with use it as standard practice to unwind.

Never in a thousand years would I have thought I'd hear chickened say he was a fan of Tosh. But I agree, really funny. Could go without all the puke videos though.
