I just processed all my meat birds and would never do it again. Rabbits are way easier. They are easy and almost cleaner to process. They don't stink. And I don't have to raise them in a brooder or any of that.

I was thinking of giving them up but after all day of butchering those stinky chickens....Rabbits rock!!!!!

I've really been debating meatbirds or rabbits. From what I hear rabbits are much easier to process. I haven't decided yet:>) But thanks for the info

It's all fun and games till someone gets the REALLY expensive feed bill.......

been raising rabbits for just over 3 years....feed prices have gone from $10- really great to $12-15

, and I tend to think my ducks and chickens eat less than my rabbits....but this is me.

However, you can't get a better, leaner meat than rabbit, and feed conversion can be nice. But you look at a rabbit wrong, and it's dead..........

This is totally random but just throwing it out there...

What about... Guinea Pigs for meat? They wont produce as much meat but they seem so easy and clean in comparison, they mature really fast too. It seems kinda taboo here in the US but it sure works out well in south america.

I'd have no problems eating one. Heck I've been eyeing a groundhog that's taken up residence a hundred yards or so past my drive.

As for the rabbits I've been planning on getting some. My son ate one by himself a few weeks ago and loved it.

We've been considering meat rabbits as well. Don't know much about rabbits, but, heck, I didn't know much about chickens either. Some things are a learn as you go process! We have the Storey's Basic Country Skills and it shows how to process a rabbit. I ear marked it for DH!

What breeds are best for meat rabbits? I've heard New Zealand's and Checkered Giants.

As for guinea pigs...seems like a lot of work for a few bites.
