My current flock consists of a variety of some red "cage free" commercial cull hens (not sure what breed) that lay HUGE eggs. Then also some Favorelles, Delaware, Barred Rock, several Wyandotes and soon some Cochins pullets.
Our current rooster is a Delaware and we have eggs set to hatch some future layers (although I know we'll get plenty of cockerels). If we wanted to run something a bit meatier on our current hen variety is it common to run them with a cornish rooster and try and aim for a bit faster maturing meat bird? If we want layers run with a layer roo,,, want meat birds run with meat roo. Does this work the way I'd hope?
