i had to rig up an old air conditioner for my meaties last weekend - was almost 90 degrees and they are all stretched out and panting. i use deep litter, with DE and straw, but the litter generates heat, so it must have been close to 100 degrees on the floor. had 3 fans running with no success, so cut a hole in the wall and put in the old air conditioner. i think that I may have lost 30 percent or more if i had not. I am running it again today, as it is to be near 80 outside.
you might consider the air conditioner for a warmer climate, as it really makes a difference to their comfort and probably wouldn't use as much electric as several fans..
i also have a small run that they can access thru a door, but out of 60 the most that I have ever had go outside was 12, so it was pretty much an added expense that they don't really need or want. if you want them to have grass - put a pan full of grass clipping in wit them and they will love it.
