Mine are still in the house, the temperatures here are still to cold. I ended up moving them from the Rubbermaid tub to my 4x4 whelping box. That's 16 sq feet for 10 chicks, and they STILL STINK! One more week, the temps should be up, they'll have feathers, and they are out of here!

I'm starting to think my next go around with meaties will be with Dark Cornish. At least those I can throw out in the coop when they're older without them stinking up the place.

I've been using a product called babycakes. i believe it lives up to its expectations, lucky for me I live down the road from Meyer hatchery where they carry it. It might be me just thinking it works, so I am on the second cake now and will check it out, they also carry a forgagecake for chickens that does the same thing. here is a link to meyer so you can read about it you may be able to get it at other places also

Are you saying that this helps with the stink????

so these meat chicks...are they a cross? I am new to chickens and I was just wondering how they produce these guys if they don't live long enough to produce eggs LOL..and how much do meat chicks run..I saw them for $1 at my feed store.

they keep some in "breeder barns" where they are feed a different diet so they don't grow as fast as the other broilers. I think it just less protein. you can see it all on youtube.....but be careful what you click on, theres alot of animal rights videos on there too.

wow didn't realize I was getting a good deal...normally everything in Cali is so expensive! I paid $5 each for my new americanas (sp?), Buffs and marans. I think or TSC charges 2.49 or something like that...maybe you can find a local breeder in LA?

I'm saying thats what they say and I believe it works, but you how that goes you sometimes make yourself believe just about anything. I'm still in the testing phase of the product and it is expensive. But I'll try anything, the product itself smells every good it has cinnamon and other spices. It may be working for me, I'm only doing small groups of 11 CX's. So I'm hoping someone else might be trying this also and if they like.

Well, I think I helped the little chick who couldn't walk... Since she was walking with her leg out insead of under, I just treated it like spraddle leg. After last night and most of today being taped up she is about 90% better. The bad thing is that now I'm attached to this one!!

Seriously, though, I'm glad to hear that she's doing better. Here's hoping she makes it to butcher day (and not longer than that!).

lol I know I have to keep telling myself shes going to be FOOD and thats the only reason we have them.....

Last night was their first night outside and they all did good. I got up and checked out them a few times to make sure they weren't too cold, but everything was fine. Now they required even less attention so I doubt I'll be attached to any.
