Medicated chick food

Medicated chick starter should be used for about 8 weeks. After that you can buy non medicated starter or grower. I don't know anyone who keeps them on medicated feed until they are ready to lay. Dumor is not medicated (TSC) & you can by non medicated Purina Start & Grow.

I had to take them off due to the older 3 that are almost 18 weeks. I am using non medicated starter this past week. I have to seperate the older 3 to give them oyster shell.

My youngest 2 are only 10-11 weeks old. I'm sure they will be fine without medicated. If they were all the same age, I'd feed them medicated until 17 weeks of age.

I plan to to switch to grower maybe after this last bag of medicated has ran out. My oldest chicks are 14 weeks and youngest are 6 weeks old.

I read here once that you should keep them on medicated for at least 2 weeks after they're outside on the dirt/grass. Maybe that would be an easier timetable?

Purina, (who does this for a living you know) says chick starter for the first 18 weeks and then switch to layer food. It doesn't matter if the starter is medicated or not.

I can't keep ordering a 5lb bag at $15+ till they lay.

No, I couldn't either. I buy a 50# bag of medicated starter for $12.50. You need to change suppliers.

I'm in Quakertown, PA. I'm not sure where any other feed stores are around here. We certainly have enough farms, so it seems as though there should be some other places to buy than just Tractor Supply.

The outside for 2 weeks rule seems sound. That would put them at about 8 weeks old anyway, which is what my Manna Pro says too (man, my 5 lb bags are only $6 a pop!) Hmm... I dunno... I'll call Moyer's on Monday and see if they can direct me to some more medicated stuff. My girls are little piggies and will run out of food by the end of next week!
