MEDICATED FEED....IS IT

SAFE FOR PEAFOWL, GUINEAS, DUCKS AND CHICKENS ??

Always thought it was not good for one or the other??
Is it ok, safe, for all of them??

Just want to clarify this question in my mind....thanks!

There are two different ingredients that can be used, one is bad for water fowl the other is not but I couldn't tell you which is which.

look up medicated chick starter or grower and see what it says.

From everything I just looked at, feed medicated with amprolium is okay to feed to waterfowl, but I didn't spend too much time looking, lol. Sure hope it's okay, 'cause that's what mine get... they even get water treated with Corid (amprolium) if they happen to be in a brooder with chicks being treated for coccidiosis.

I have fed feed medicated with amprolium to all of my birds and I can't find any info that says one shouldn't.

I use medicated chick starter for all my chicks and will not use anything else. I used it on ducks, guinea hens, chickens, quail, turkey and peafowl with no side effects at all.

There is tons of information that says you should not be using medicated feed for waterfowl. I believe Storey's Guide still says no medicted feed. It may be controversial, but it is out there. The truth is hard to ascertain. Pick your favorite source and follow their recommendations.

You should be watching what medication is in your feed and understand what it is. It is not always Amprolium and Menonsin is toxic to some animals (guineas and horses). Be careful.

We do not feed medicated feed to our remaining waterfowl.

I dont dispute any of those sources. Nor do I dispute any of the opposite side. I only point out they exist.
