There are studies where they forced mice to breath DE for an hour a day for a year that had some bad results….but….you breath any powder for an hour a day for a year…

If you've got it in your coop and run then your chickens are breathing it every time they scratch around.

No more or no less then say…..the dirt and dust they already kick up and breath. And we know what’s in regular dirt as it is.

The real concern is high crystalline silica levels in DE, but that is typically a non-food grade DE problem.

See the study info below, but generally amorphous silica which has no know relationships with cancer, which crystalline silica does. Amorphous silica is known to cause some lung irritation but is mild and not a long term issue.(someone like me, ex smoker, notices is for sure, hack and cough)

As a side note, also someone like me with high cholesterol, there is some science that needs to be followed as it appears to be a good supplement for cholesterol issues, among other things.
