So, I've been lurking on the BYC for years and finally have something to post. This is my coop building thread, I'll be updating as we go along. I'll give some stats and just run with it from there.
Location: Lorena, TX.
Space to work with: If I had to guess, we have about an acre in the backyard that is shared between the chickens, our 3 dogs, and the garden.
Coop Size: 8'6"x8'6"
Run Size: Maybe 8'6"x16' or bigger if I can convince the SO to go that way. If I can put in an automatic coop door that can be relied upon to close every evening, we are considering electric poultry netting for a rotational "pasture" system. I am comfortable with electric because our three horses live in a nicely electrified pasture with mini paddocks that can be rotated.
Type: Dirt Floor, Walk In
Important features: Lots of ventilation and predator proofing.

I'm sure there is more, I'll add some later.

Always an exciting time when you start on a new coop! Are you building a walk-in style?

Here are the ladies, enjoying a snack, ready for appropriately sized new digs.

Coop and run will be far back in one of the few shaded spots in the yard. The family came to help.

Posts are in the ground, yay! It took a rock bar to get them there, and the SO who is way stronger than I am, but I am so happy!

Awesome progress and kudos to your FIL - my own FIL has proven invaluable during our most recent coop build. What a great location for your girls' new digs!

Thank you! We have to let the concrete set before the next go round. Which works out, as Darrin works nights all week, and I can't do this without him. Well, I could, but not as well.
