Meerkat Grounds ~A Meerkat RP~

“What is with him?” Acorn muttered. “He’s always been a wet blanket, but he didn’t even M’am me or e-nun-ciate.”
Rose streaked by. What was that kat doing? She was supposed to be watching the kits! Why was she running straight towards the watering hole? Acorn barreled after her.
Wadi waited outside the den, standing tall, the epitome of obedient meerkat lookout. He glanced back at the hole his brother had gone through. A moment. Two moments. Acorn was gone. There was his chance. Time to seek drama. Drama was Wadi’s weakness. He didn’t seek trouble though. If two meerkats ran off in the direction of the treacherous watering whole, that was their business, at least until they returned. Then he made it his business.
Wadi dove through the hole and scrambled through the tunnel slippery as an eel. He sidled up to Cody and put his claw on his shoulder.
“So, Cody, you saw the crocodile? What was that like? How big was it? Wait, what are you doing here with these kits?”
"Rose told me to . . . wait! Rose can't tell me to do anything! Let's go! She just wants to do the saving without us!" Cody finally came to his senses and made an alarm "yelp" and grabbed Tiny. Cody growled at Rose knowing how she took advantage of his confusion to try to be the hero.

(Wait, I thought he was in the den, how could he save Tiny in the last minute?)

Rose jumped out of the way as Cody suddenly appeared, flew into the water, grabbed Tiny straight out of the crocodile’s jaws, and teleported back to shore, all under 2 seconds. “Dangit,” she said grumpily, wishing she had thought of doing whatever that was. She turned around, saw Acorn, and decided to try and pull a Cody. However, Rose found that she sadly was unable to teleport, so walked up to Acorn, defeated. “Sorry for leaving the pups, ma’am.”

"This family is so weird. . ." said Almond. She was so confused she wasn't crying anymore.
Meelo tried to imitate Cody and smashed into Wadi.

“Yes, you ought to be,” Acorn, punching her in the face as if a crocodile infested waterhole was the perfect environment for punishment. Which it was. The more unsavory environment, the better.
“And what’s more, I want to know how she got away from the den in the first place. WHY WOULD YOU LET MY CHILD ALMOST GET KILLED? And I’d also like to know who named her Tiny, and why Tinies are all so problematic and shrimpy and troublesome in every story… oh, that was m…well she is a shrimp. But anyways, nice bravery in the rescuing… WHAT DID YOU DO WITH MY OTHER CHILDREN?”

Rose accepted the punishment obediently, though inside she was seething. Should’ve expected this. She reminded herself. “That little brat— I mean, brave pup was able to sneak away during the commotion. The other.. babysitters.. weren’t around.”

Rose looked down. “Cody was supposed to be watching the pups.” She mumbled.

“Ahem. Cody was? Since when was that Cody’s job? Cody did his job. Why don’t you do yours?” She paused her “telling off” in order to congratulate Cody. “Cody, excellent job saving Tiny’s life. I’ve really never seen anything like it. Never. You’ll have to show me sometime. It was beautiful. You never hesitated. You were very brave, risking your life for the tribe. Such an excellent young lookout, and such an asset to our mob.” If she had thought he was a wet blanket minutes before, she never showed it. She nodded gratefully.
She wheeled and turned back to Rose. “Did you say the other babysitters weren’t around?” (manual italics bleh)

(I love Acorn, she’s such a good “stern mother” character.)

Cody’s sooo cool just cus he can teleport. Rose thought moodily. She nodded in response to Acorn’s final question, wisely deciding not to answer the other ones, which were probably rhetorical. “Chestnut left the burrow before the crocodile was sighted.”
