Meet Drumstick, the one-legged cockerel--Happy UPDATE on pg 3

If no one else wants to take him and he ends up on the table, I would be interested to see what he looks like under those feathers. Maybe you could post in the Meat Bird section...

AWWWWWWW I hope someone gets him.

To overcome so much it would be a shame.

It would seem that Drumstick really IS a praying bird! I've been keeping him here in a covered pen with a trio of bantams, waiting for him to grow big enough for the table. My boys were campaigning mightily on his behalf, but I really didn't feel that I had the extra resources to keep a bird who wouldn't contribute to our cause. He would always have to be kept in a covered pen, away from the hawks and the other roosters, he wouldn't be able to husband any hens.

I had always said that I would give him to anyone wanting to keep him for a pet, and tonight he got his chance. We took him and a cross-billed Polish pullet to our monthly poultry fanciers' meeting. Tonight of all nights there were a couple of members who rarely if ever come to the meetings, and they immediately took an interest in the Polish pullet. They already have another Polish hen who leads a very privileged life at their house, getting to come inside and perch on a towel on the back of their couch to watch TV. They were also holding & cuddling Drumstick.

By the end of the meeting they told me that they'd like to take the Polish pullet home. While I was putting her in a box for them, they said that they'd be willing to take Drumstick too! He must have been praying diligently for a good home, it was so rare to see these people out at our monthly meetings, and it must have been a divine appointment, not coincidence, that brought them out on the very night I brought Drumstick to the meeting.

Maybe Drumstick will also get to go indoors to watch TV. I know he'll be a very polite houseguest and won't try to grab the remote. There's no way that he could even if he wanted to with only one leg to stand on!
