Grounder ❤

I had a hen who was hatched with one eye, she was not smart either, she turn her head so the bad eye would look at food before she ate it, but then another hen would steal it.
Grounder lives alone at night. He has a seed cup like a parrot would use and that is really the only thing he will eat from.. He will drink water from Jazzy's pool which is dumped everyday day and bleached a few times a week (my sister does that).

So..turns out Grounder is NOT a hen, but a cock & I must have mistaken his calls as a two syllable & all his body language is that of a male. Anyway, his best pal is Jazzy & they spend all day in a coop together. Jazzy is a female and it was a correct guess!! She has laid a few eggs. These are her 1st four eggs (one a night) and all the egg yolk/white has been removed and we are going to do some egg decorating. Pretty easy to remove the goop, one small pin hole in the bottom & use a large needle and syringe to inject air which all the goop slides out the tiny hole.View attachment 3195743
Is Jazzy a Guinea? Those look like my duck eggs! 😹

Oh a duck and a Guinea pair! Sounds so sweet. I brooded ducklings and keets together and they turned into bitter enemies as adults!
I call them 🎶 Gu-gu-gu-guinea and the duck 🎶 ...Grounder is a freak of nature and so interested with the pool. When the hose comes out to fill it, Grounder will run over to the splashes and get all poofed up and dance/fight the water 😆 ... Sometimes Jazzy will be floating on the edge of the pool and Grounder will goband stand by her, he will tap his break to her bill..i say they are kissing.

I wonder.. How do you keep your keets dry if raising with a duck? Jazzy lays unfertilized eggs, but if she went bloody I could put some fertile guinea eggs in her nest ...but I know keets shouldnt get wet, but for how long? Jazzy is a messy eater/ drinker and water water everywhere.

Well mine were in a brooder so I was able to set things up so the duck waterer was more attractive to the ducks than the keets and chicks. I wouldn’t let a duck brood chicks or keets as she would lead them into the pool and drown them.
