So we have this chicken. Kids named her Lucy and got attached, and then she started having issues with crop impaction/pendulous crop. She’s the sweetest chicken, first to run to greet you and lets us pat and hold her and follows me around. We decided to let her live out her days knowing they would be short, but maybe we could see what color egg she would lay before she crossed the chicken rainbow. She and the other pullet her age neared 6months (our first and oldest chickens so very excited for that first ever egg!!), and the other pullet laid the most beautiful olive green egg. Then the next day sweet “Lucy” mounted and mated the egg layer??? I can’t believe she’s a rooster?? I mean I know the feathers but she’s so sweet and not aggressive and never crowed is super quiet and barely a comb that didn’t redden up until after six months. Say it’s not so??

Definitely a cockerel

I was so hoping for a different response. Lucy the boy may become a garden rooster and help me turn over the raised beds. If she/he stays nice and doesn’t crow. Of the original six sexed pullets, this is cockerel number four! :barnie The other three crowed and were not nice and have been deported. I never suspected sweet Lucy!!
