Meet my Chick!

Yeah, that's not much fun! I always keep an eye out for my roosters...I've seen what they can do! Maybe you should try putting him on his back & then speak chicken to him! 😉 Let him know who's boss...WhoDat is! 💞 I hate to see you lose him, but you're lucky if you've found a home for him! :hugs
But now I’m afraid to get too close.. especially to try and grab him... I think now he may push back! 🙄
I really hate to lose him too.. cuz what if my flock becomes so unruly.. it seems that Jan is a problem... and he keeps them in check... breaking up fights and whatnot! Plus, he’s really great with the new chicks when I integrate.. I feel he’ll protect them from the witches! BUT I HATE the shenanigans! 🤦‍♀️

You have to do what is best for you and for your flock.
It will be sad for him to go to a new home (this thread is named after him after all), but if he is well cared for at his new home that’s all that matters.
I have no rooster in my flock and that is my choice. I am a little afraid of getting one and having him become a problem. I read so many horror stories.
Same here... but I have also seen many great ones! I do love my flock without a rooster.. I think they are happier... I have one that is hiding all day and I hate the missing feathers on their backs!! But I also really like having him... :barniewhat to do!!

We had mostly rain with some thunder and lightning. How bad was it for you ?

I'm doing pretty good, thanks for asking 🤗. I still have mostly low grade headaches, and a few other issues but 🤷. My wrist is getting better, the scar is looking good and the pain is minimal unless I'm in therapy or right after, then it hurts for awhile.
Oh, that’s great to hear! At least the headaches are not as bad anymore! It’s so wonderful to hear that you have progressed so much! And that’s good news about your wrist as well:hugs

Oh, and we didn’t have any bad weather... just lots of rain!

So difficult. Have you tried the separation approach?

Thanks! Yea, I am really leaning towards rehoming him.. I already found someone who will take him! But now I start to get sad... because he really is pretty good.. I think! That is what the girl asked me.. if he is good with the ladies... I told her I thought so and that I wasn’t 100% cuz I’ve never had a rooster so, nothing to compare with. I remember loving my flock without a rooster but now I have many more hens so I wonder if they are better with a rooster... I’m torn!
This will be a difficult decision to make. You do have some experience to think on. Remember when you let the other hens go? You regretted it for a little bit but it seems like you have been happy with that decision. Do you regret that decision?

I dealt with this with Jabber. He was much more aggressive than Trump from what you have said. I am still sad about it but I do not regret it. My relationship with the tribe is so very different without a rooster. It is what I enjoy most about the hens. Jabber and I could not coexist and the hens and I have the same relationship.

It also know that it made the last months of Patsy's life enjoyable. They fought constantly. She hated him. While Hattie and he were good together, Lilly and Patsy were very unhappy with him. I felt bad about how they had to live their lives so unhappy.

These are my experiences. You have to make your own decision. Evaluate what you want from owning chickens, what you want your relationship to be, and then pray on it. The right thing will come to you.

I do hold him sometimes.. when he comes close enough I can catch him... I think it does help and I did crow at him today... but now I am a little frightened of him.. so I am constantly looking over my shoulder to see where he is! If things stay that way then that’s just no fun.. ya know...
Mrs BY Bob never forgave Jabberwocky for when he attacked her. And she used to hold him and sing to him. After the attack only I could take care of the chickens.

Well, you've listed both great pros and cons for having a rooster. I can understand your fear of him right now, maybe you could give it a week or so to see if you can push past the fear you have of him and see if it was a one time thing, then if you can't, maybe you should let him go. It's not much fun to be afraid.
When I got my flock, I decided that I wanted a rooster for flock protection. Sadly it took losing Madeleine for them to learn there is danger from above, but now they know and I think they are doing a good job. Trump has been good about protecting your flock too.
