Meet "Ugly-stepsister" - ugliest hen I've ever seen, a mongrel red frizzle (?)

After lots of time researching and so on, I believe she is in fact a frizzle/frizzle, AKA "frazzle" AKA "extreme frizzle" in addition to any age and moulting etc.

When I found this article on http://chickensetc.blogspot.com I was like "oh my gosh, this looks EXACTLY like mine in all of her .... er, special ways she is different!" So I'm going to rest it at that, I feel very lucky that somebody shared these pics and of a chicken that looks almost identical to mine. I'm calling her a frazzle. Thanks again all. I really appreciate everything.

These are the pics from that site:

Not to contradict what you found, but as explained earlier, your bird is not a 'frazzle'. A frazzle is a bird that has little to no underfluff, very thin, brittle feathers, and the wings wouldnt even have a shaft for a feather, and look just down right scraggly. Neither of the birds pictured (yours or the white one from the site you found) have narrow, brittle looking feathers, and they both have underfluff. The problem with frizzling, is if note isnt taken to breed a bird of good feather than feather quality will suffer and you end up with birds like this. Cochins are a particular breed that take very little worry in getting things done fast, that goes for maturing and moulting, so just give her some time and im sure she will blossom into a totally different looking bird.

Here is a 1 minute video of her (calling her Poppy now) sitting on her clutch having just adjusted/rotated her eggs - she went broody on Sunday 48 hours ago! - for anyone interested. Very proud of her! Since we got her 1 month ago, I am *hoping* some of her eggs are still fertilized and we might get some adorable frizzle babies.

And then we'll get to see what type of babies she has! I love broody hens because they're so entertaining, and I really admire their awesome motherliness.

Despite how fierce and wild she is, she is a surprising sweetheart and nonthreatening compared to other broodies we've had. I wish she'd be less sweetheartish toward her sister frizzle who's been coming over and pecking her on the head, unsure what's up with that.

I wanted to come back here and follow up to say that yes she was molting - it was a long nasty molting and she was so strange looking being frizzled. I've spent so much time on BYC learning that I know how important it is to finish a conversation here so that others in the future learn.

Also, our two red frizzle girls got busy with a black silky roo and yes, we got what looks like frizzle babies - yay! I put a pic over in this thread: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/647114/do-chicks-need-the-heat-lamp-constantly/10#post_11065634

Thank you to all who commented here to help me, I appreciate it.
