Mel’s Marans Mixer hatch-along

I just realized if you set on the 3rd, we have the same hatchday.
41 Black Coppers, BBS Silver Marans and a few Legbars.

Best of luck with your hatch ♥️
Same with you. I love the simplicity of dry incubation with Marans. It’s humid enough in my house- rh 34%

Sad news.
I had a power failure over the weekend. It must have been longer than the 4 hours I estimated. When I candled on day 18 there were several quitters. Along with the nonfertilized eggs I am looking at only 11 going into lockdown. 😢
Now the good news: Among those of you who picked an egg, all are still viable :ya
and on day 20!!
With the outage this could go to day 22. Fingers crossed for these lil babes.

Good morning everybody! Here’s an update on my run. I simple updated post #5– call it lazy but I prefer overly efficient- lol.
Despite the poor run most of you chose winners.

Wrathsfarm- it looks like there are 4 pure BBS Marans in there- three blue and a black. The yellow chick has a slight brown marking on its head so that one I doubt is a Splash. The chipmunk chick is prob a female Biel/Marans mix.
One blue chick has heavily feathered legs so it’s prob male.
Interesting, out of my last pure BBS Marans hatch all males had heavily feathered legs at hatch and females were barely discernible. The hens who gave the eggs have lightly feathered feet- the Roo is heavily feathered. Probably just a penetrance factor in the feathered foot gene, but if it helps in sexing with more than 50% accuracy then I’ll take it. ☺️

Could you post a pic of the yellow chick with brown head spot?. That's very interesting. I've gotten 2 so far in my BCMs, 1 was a male I sadly needed to cull but now I have a female out of a recent hatch.

Congrats on your littles and looking forward to pics if you care to share them.
