Three roosters : Melvin is top roo. Red and the cochin are sub roos, not allowed to mate and cochin doesn't crow anymore.
My mom was catching the red to give him mealworms since Melvin always chases him away from eating treats. So Melvin attacked my mom! Not flogging, he pecked at my mom's face, arms, and hands. She hurts and had some blood! My mom grabbed his hackle feathers and wriggled him by the hackles and he calmed down and left. It's something we've noticed that chickens do in the pecking order so we copy when needed. Red was making alot of noise, I thought one of the dachshunds got to him. Why did he attack my mom?
The advice part =
Melvin is about 7 1/2 months old. He is a light sussex. So my mom wants to get rid of him... I gave her the speech about Charlie and now she knows how I felt when that miserable BR flogged me several times. But he is the only one making babies successfully right now. Red has left a bald patch on Moochie's neck from his really bad mating techniques, which I don't appreciate my Moochie's feathers being pulled out by a doofus-mating rooster. Although Red is quite the beauty. The cochin isn't what I call a gorgeous roo, but he's nice. Melvin is going bad and is hurting my mom... But I payed 20 bucks for him and I think he is the ultimate beauty, who will make beautiful mutts with my various pullets and hens. I want to find him a good home! But then again I don't want him to turn into a Charlie.
My mom just said "maybe we shouldnt have any roosters" I replied "I need good baby makers!!"
