We just moved they chickens from a small coop to the barn where we cleaned out one of the horse stables and are using milk crates for nesting boxes. We have used shavings but, just went to straw/hay for their nesting boxes.
Every now and then we will get a busted egg where they will make like a nest type circle with the shavings or straw and the egg when being laid will drop on one of the x's at the bottom of the milk crates.
Hoping to get so idea's or pointers to help me out with this issue. I just put more straw under and in the nesting boxes. Any advice would be great thank you

You can use an old magazine or newspaper to line the bottom too.Just make sure there aren't any staples or perfume samples.
I'm going to try this right now..I have a pile of magazines I was just going to bring to the school tomorrow too. Neat.

I have signs on the outside of my porch too.
Yeah corrugated plastic sheets works pretty well on all kinds of stuff. I also put it on my deer stands and used a sheet to make a roof for my hatching cage. You go buy a sheet of the stuff new they are proud of it. Wait till after an election you can get a truck load for free. I have a corner lot that despite the fence and no trespassing signs idiots want to put signs up for broadband internet and realtor crap. Every time I see one I pick it up and put it in my pile. They don't have my permission for their ads so it's litter on my land and free for me to take.
