Just got home from work and my 21 week old EE pullet (Ada) is making weird meowing/moaning noises with intermittent high pitch sneezes. Don’t think it is good. Have a video below. She has some scabs on her face I’m pretty sure weren’t there this morning, I think they’re from getting picked on (which you can see in the video). I have her separated in a dog kennel in my house.
I actually have a vet appt scheduled for tomorrow mid morning because on Sunday I found a weird yellow thing on my poop board. Thread for that is here https://www.backyardchickens.com/posts/24860421/ Possible lash egg? Don’t know how that would be connected to Ada’s noise issues though? Would love to hear thoughts from more experienced folks while I look through the Chicken Health Handbook. Anything that I really need to do before 11 tomorrow? 😬

This is a respiratory issue. I would take her to the vet since you've already got the appt. I wonder if shes laying the lash egg? Lash eggs are also caused by an infection.

That's the plan! I have no clue how a reproductive and respiratory infection would be linked, unless it was like through her whole body or something? 😬 That wouldn't be good! I don't think she's stopped moaning since I brought her inside, but she ate some scrambled eggs, so that's good! Can definitely hear some wheezing undertones, and she occasionally sneezes where she sounds like a squeaky toy. My cat is NOT happy to be confined to the office tonight lol. Better not to have additional stressors on poor Ada though!

Yeah, I don't know how they could be linked either, but it sounds like a lot going on in the flock right now. Just throwing it out there. Have you found the lash egg layer?

Nope! :( I only have one pullet laying, and she just started Monday. Totally normal egg, so I don't think it's her. I'm taking my Australorp, Amelia, in tomorrow too, because she has the best developed comb/wattles out of my 5, and seems like she would be closest to laying next. My Dorking and Bielefelder, are still behind in terms of sexual maturity, so I'm pretty sure it isn't them. That's my logic at the moment! 🙃

Just wanted to add a late update. Took Ada and Amelia to the vet on Thursday. They got A+ results from the vet. He agreed the noise in the video was weird, but Ada’s breathing sounded normal. He also said the hardened pus thing did look like a very small lash egg and that it was odd because my chickens are so young. If I can bring in a fresher sample if it happens again without an appointment. We did send in some fecal samples for float tests, and that was clear of worms. So still no clue what was up last week, but everyone is happy and healthy right now, so I’ll take it!
