it just occurred to me that I might have spiders, so after washing my hands and dousing w/alcohol, I candled. 11 of 18 definitely have either a red blob or veining.

I think I read similar somewhere, that introducing them to the environment begins to build resistance. Makes sense; again, Rosie's crew, healthy as horses. Likewise, the keets I moved outside at 3 weeks in the summer. But then you get into 6 of 1 and 1/2 dozen of the other, bc material on mushy chicks stresses sanitation of brooder about 20 x before mentioning oh, btw, cracked shells in incubator can cause it, too. ("feeling deflated, guilty? Let us beat you with a broom 40 x before we ease your mind.")

When I was reading, it really was beating down the sanitation thing, so yeah, I was , bc I can't imagine what more I could have done cleaning-wise. Remember, I'm the freak that still goes out and washes the big kids' feet. So when it finally got to, "can also be caused by-" I was thinking why didn't ya mention that in the 1st 2 paragraphs???!
Better prepared this time.

FYI, I am getting ready to go to bed, but checked the guinea can one last time… It’s been 3 hours since I last checked, and during that time little Monroe must have gotten knocked off the roost. She could only make it to the top of the nest box because it’s dark (the lights are encouraging pecking when they are already so unsettled from the keet addition). It’s a warm night, but we have ANOTHER big storm coming through with more severe weather, and I didn’t want her to be scared… So out I traipsed to put her back on the roost! Sleep tight little ones!
