Used Homeopathic "Hypericum Perforatum 30C for my hen with Merck's disease and it worked!!! Thanks for a thread I read on this site! She was in so much pain I couldn't hold her to administer the pills so I put them in her water. Each day changing water and adding another pill or two. Within 3 days was walking much better. Within 10 days back to normal. Kept her isolated until all her feathers were back, total isolation time was about a month. Thanks for the info!

Welcome to BYC! :frow

Sorry your hen is unwell.

My understanding about Marek's does not include being painful, only confusing. Are you sure that's the correct diagnosis? Why were her feathers missing? What is her age?

There is NO cure for Marek's.. so if your hen is showing improvement she could relapse at any time and is considered a lifelong carrier. Relapse as birds age *MAY* look more like slow wasting then ataxia (in-coordination).

All I know is that it worked! I've been using homeopathic meds for 15 plus years on critters and myself. They are amazing. Most allopathic doctors are not educated in that realm of healing. The great thing about homeopathic medicine is that it will do no harm, even mixed with other meds so what is there to loose?? The symptoms of Mercks can be different depending on the strain of the virus and the breed of the chicken. It can effect the skin , therefore the loss of many feather's which is actually the shedding of the virus. Or effect the other nerves like gate/walking like drunk. It can also effect the eye's.

I’m glad your hen’s symptoms were resolved with the hypericum. My hen also developed symptoms of Marek’s and I tried hypericum too, but unfortunately it didn’t work for me. How long after her symptoms started did you try the hypericum?

Maybe a week or less.

Glad to hear her symptoms have gone. This is a fact. And if one of your chickens have it your whole flock most likely does. How do you know for sure it was Marek's did you have the bird or flock tested?
