Merek's Vaccination?

Well the virus in the vaccine only lives for an hour, I mix mine with some bleach and dump it down the sink.
Leadwolf, i just vaccinate at 3 weeks . There are no rules. Im just terrified.

I am terrified also I just want this little polish to live! My son has lost every polish, except the white crested red roo, and this is my last chance. I don't want to subject any more to that horrible death! I just wanted to revaccinate everyone at the same time. I guess I will wait and pray

My little guys are now 2 weeks old. So far, so good! I have 4 more coming...two this week and two the week of the 23rd. Then, I will revaccinate the entire flock.

The chicks I hatched from my own eggs in December are all doing well, no signs of illness in them at all....do you think I might have some resistance?

I think the burning part is for the left over containers, I guess it means don't throw it in the garbage can by the coop!

I do the best I can to avoid cross contamination with the flock and the new chicks. But I can only do my best. But if I lose any more chicks, I'll be taking a long break from chicks. It's too sad. But so far I've added 10 chicks -who are now adults, the past few months. I have 7 in a coop on my patio. And 6 in the bator, then that's it for awhile. Too much!!!!

It's a lot of work, and you are right, we can only do our best! I am doing so much wash these days....three changes of clothes per day is too much!! But, I'm hoping that I can get these chicks raised I just purchased one each of 11 breeds...all pullets My hatched chicks are doing great but most are roos Figures

These 11 are it for me for the year!! I would love to have some more bantams but I just don't need any more roos Good luck with your chicks...I feel just about like they are my own

Awww, we've both been in this a while!
I try to plan chick care first thing in the morning, after showering and changing clothes. If I have to care for them in between, I scrub up to my elbows, and put a big shirt or something on backwards, and keep my hair away from them as I can. More I can't do.

If I choose to vaccinate/re-vaccinate my adult flock, where is the best place to give them the shot?

The neck, or the thigh. Some say the thigh is easier, so I would say there.

That's the spot we were going to use and it does have more muscle....but it's supposed to be subcutaneous meaning under the skin. seemed too likely to go into muscle on the thigh as the skin was tighter. the only youtube video i found showed someone doing it in the neck but she was purposely making a bubble with each one...like you do a transdermal shot as in a TB test. i think she went between the skin layers. anyway....the best subcutaneous i found was the back of the neck but it was tough regardless. lots tougher than people!

They say the thigh is better because you are less likely to hurt the bird, but the neck does have more loose skin. It works either way though.
