Metacam question

Well, as usual, for a while, LaPollo was doing great on the anti-inflammatories, no antibiotics, and the vitamins. This morning, he's starting to limp again and has some swelling in his left ankle. NOW the vet says to give the Prednisone dose every other day, (as he's been on it for 10 days) and continue the Prednisone for a month. I think he's undecided about the antibiotics. LaPollo is in a large chicken tractor, with a low perch, and I noticed yesterday he had a bad landing coming down from his perch, so maybe that's why. I know he should be in a smaller pen where his movement is limited, but we tried that for a while, and he could not stand it. He was just freaking out in the small pen. I think the vet is undecided about continuing the antibiotics. Right now he continues to be on not any. From what I've read,

Just for the record, I just wanted to say that after 11 weeks, I thought he was sound and released him. He stayed sound for two days, then began limping again..however, since then, he has steadily gotten stronger and his limp has lessened. I am thinking that it may have been MS that originally he was dealing with, and he may also have gout too, as that is chronic...but at any rate he remains well enough at this time to stay with the flock, they have accepted him back, and he is happy! Thanks for all the advice, everybody.

As an aside, weirdly, I now have an old hen who is extremely lame. She's the same age as LaPollo my rooster. She has some swelling in her left foot, and the Meloxicam is not touching her pain. Her symptoms are different than the rooster's. I think lameness is very common, and possibilities as to what it could be are endless..especially in older birds.
