Metal vs. wood nest boxes, which is best?

No, I'm not cheap ha-ha, I tested out several different nesting boxes, mostly wood, and I have gradually replaced almost all of my wood with them, since they seemed to actually prefer them, and they fit perfectly in there

I have 2 wood nesting boxes and 2 plastic. The girls seem to use the wooden boxes the most but that may be because of their location more than the material (the wooden boxes are a little higher).

Thanks for all the input. I did the math and it's cheaper for me to do the wood boxes since I can make them myself. And I do like the idea of the wood better than metal.

Now I am trying to decide how high up they should be. I am thinking somewhere around 12-14 inches off the ground. The current coop has them right on the floor with no separation so the eggs end up all over and they get stepped on all the time. They really don't seem to like it and I don't blame them

Without having to build a ramp to the nests how high do you think they should be?
