Methods of keeping roosters... are any effective?

Not sure if you can find something similar, but I once trained a rooster to not crow. I got up early and pumped up my kids Master Blaster air gun. I waited just out of sight in the dark. At the crack of dawn he would jump up on his favorite roost flap his wings stretch his neck and woomph!
I would nearly rock him off his roost with a blast of air.
Not exactly sure how long it took, seems like it was a couple weeks.
But then he would get up there do his preps then just chuckle and sit down.
It was either him or the wife...

Wow, that's pretty amazing. Apparently our boy is settling into his new home as of this morning, but I wonder if it might work for our little chick who I think is a rooster, if we started the moment he began crowing. I've never heard of anything like that before! :D

Hi everyone! We have a young rooster who has recently started crowing and he's not legal where we live. However I've been hearing about de-crowing roosters, crow collars, etc... Does anybody know about these, or any other options for keeping him? He's really sweet, a Silkie mix, and not at all an aggressive mater with our hens. I do know that there's not much chance of keeping him unless there's a method we can trust that won't harm him or anything. The next move might have to be selling him :(
Thanks!
How about just rehoming him so he can do and be what hes supposed to be.

So glad to here about Rooster. If you weren't so far from us we would of taken him. We are in the PNW.

I second selling and not giving him away. I recently posted two free young cockerels, not minding if someone ate them and received a message from a man who wanted them "all any other roosyers I may want to rehome". I asked if he was going to eat them and he said he used them as bait for fighting. I obviously said no way. I didn't know that was even a thing and was shocked he even admitted it. I immediately removed the post and will never ever post a free rooster again. I have no problem with humane evisceration and consumption but I will never let any of my unwanted boys to go that way.

Its awful isn't it? people also do that with free any small animals!

I have a silky rooster and love him dearly, therefore, no option to sale nor give him away. I bought 2" velro and wrap around his neck and it does reduce!! Also, I tap him each time he crows with "noodle" kid use for swimming. No he realize he will be tapped with a noodle, so much much much less crowing now. Good luck.

if you can insert a pencil then should be ok. Since my rooster adapted with velcro, I am thinking to go to Joan'n Fabric store and get a wide rubber band instead.

After heat is not needed I put my rooster in a cage inside the main flock (3 laying hens). When my rooster starts to crow (age of 2 months) I removed the cage as I thought he is big enough to defend himself. And of course the big hens bullied him badly.
He was freaked out and hides under the coop’s nest box and sneaks out to get food and water and runs back to the hiding spot before hens put eyes on him. I think he doesn’t want any hens to notice him so he doesn’t really make a noise.
Not sure how long this will last as he is gradually coming out and the hens are not bothering him that much.
From now, he has not been crowed for a month.
