Methyl Anthranilate (MA) is a known bird repellent and is environmentally friendly. Information on methyl anthranilate and birds. I had some left over from a research experiment on color association in chickens and haven't had any use for it until now. The first thing I realized when I smelled the MA was that it smelled just like a known brand of "no pick lotion" and sure enough, it's contained in the ingredients list.
My White Marans chick had a few of his chest feathers pulled out so I made my own lotion with aloe vera gel, coconut oil (antibacterial properties), spirulina-based food dye, and of course MA.
Not sure if this is the proper location for this thread but let me know if anyone has any suggestions for ingredients to add to the salve or any suggestions. Should I leave it such a light color or add more dye? I'm debating if this adds more attention to the wound or not. Would green be a more apt choice in color since it's complementary with red so neutralizes the color more? I will update on how my lotion works and his progress in healing!
