So I'm almost positive one of my RP poults has blackhead. She is lethargic, not eating, and droopy. Had a wet and yellow poop. I crushed and syringed her a 250mg Metronidazole pill, but I'm starting to worry that was too much. Any ideas about dosing amount for her age and how long to treat? I also want to dose the others because they have all been ranging over the same area with my chickens. Any help is greatly appreciated! I adore these little guys

Work out dosage by wt.

Metronidazole is one of the most commonly used drugs for anaerobic infections. It is effective for giardiasis; other drugs used for Giardia infection include albendazole, fenbendazole, and quinacrine. Maximum dose that should be administered is 50-65 mg/kg,q24h, in any species.

Most folks dose turks for a week.

However, it would be a good idea to worm all your poultry (Valbazen will get all worms) so as to knock down the opportunity for poultry to poultry transmission. Keeping runs as dry as possible (good drainage, sand, ag lime amendment every year or so will also help to limit exposure).
