Metzer Farms?

Hey Y'all,

My wife and I are wanting to order some geese and a few more ducks for our property. I have read good things about Metzer Farms, but their Google Reviews aren't great. What have y'all experianced?

Also, since they are located in California and we are in Georgia, should I worry about the long distance the birds will have to travel?

I like Metzer a lot.

Many folks throughout the country have received birds from them.

Long distance is always a concern.. but I would take my chances, since there is a live guarantee.. over many other hatcheries that offer waterfowl, as I wasn't pleased with most chicken quality.

Their breed/gender accuracy was spot on for my order.

I ordered ducklings from them. They arrived in 36 hours and all were happy and healthy.

I believe Metzer's is the largest and one of the best waterfowl breeders in the United States. Dave Holderread is much smaller but would probably be a tie for my vote for the best.

Also, chances are good that no matter where you order from, they will be drop shipped from Metzers. Most chicken hatcheries focus on just doing chickens, then subcontract out the waterfowl.

For whatever reason aggressive animal rights activists who view raising animals for food or profit is immoral have hounded them on social media. This probably dragged down their ratings on Google.

Lucky for me Metzer Farms is only about 30 minutes from my house, so I have had the privilege of meeting them in person. Very nice people, and very clean farm. I have purchased their ducks in the past, and plan to again in the future.

I ordered 18 ducks of different varieties. They shipped on Monday, and didn’t arrive until Thursday! Only 17 were in the box! 5 were dead to the point of smelling and flies on them! 4 more died within 30 minutes of being placed in the brooder. There was no heat pack and the two small cups inside were bone dry and empty. What an awful experience! I emailed immediately and called and have received no answer!
