Metzer Farms

I sold some of our extra Metzer Buff ducks to one of our 4H members. Josh took his Buff Ducks to the Arkansas Spring Livestock Show and WON Best Medium Duck in the Open Show. The class had some excellent exhibition quality competition. When asked by a fellow junior exhibitor where he got his Buff Ducks, Josh stated: Those are Mr. Jim's culls! (He will now on state they are Metzers). Funny how boys like to strut and impress the girls. Metzer Buff Ducks are very good quality.

Has anyone who ordered a small number got an extra duckling/gosling? Not that I would mind, I'm just curious.

Mine come next week:
2 Pekin ducks (Tinker Bell is for my Captain Hook and Mei Ling is for Ping)
8 assorted Indian Runners

I can't wait!

This batch is starting out on the screened porch - not my dining room (like the Easter ducks).

Metzer says right on their web page that they usually try to include a free bird, but in the case of very small orders (I'm thinking under five birds) they don't, as they realize you are ordering a small quantity because space is limited at your place.

I have heard such great things about them; I wish I had known before I got my first ducks, but I definitely plan to place an order with them in the spring once they have goslings back in stock! Sometimes I go on the site and just daydream about all the different breeds I want. LOL But right now I am thinking I want one buff goose, one Sebastopol goose, one Golden 300, one buff duck, and one WH.

Yes, I ordered two females and got two extra males as "packing." Their website says that they won't do this with small orders, but I would recommend that anyone placing a small order mention that you don't want extras. My order may have just been an accident.

Most people that order 2 ducklings only want 2 ducks. Luckily, a friend of mine took a male and female, but that left me with a male I didn't want. Oh well....

I actually recently found it! But now I've forgotten if it was in July or August and I can't remember where I saw it to check.

[[[......My Pekins turned yellow after their first molt.....]]]]

Yes, Pekins are expected to have a yellowish cast to their feathers. as far as I know, it's the only breed where white is not supposed to be stark white.

I was very happy with my Metzer order this year. I got 4 cayugas, 2 buffs, 2 swedish (a blue and a black), a blue and black runner and they sent 1 extra black runner. The extra was even marked on the packing list! I was a little overrun with baby animals this year (chickens, ducks, abandoned kittens) so I sold all but the swedish pair that are now about 8 weeks old. Very pretty and the Black swedish drake is a BIG boy! He has a lot of extra white on him and its like mottled but he's very pretty and I like the white contrast!

They arrived all healthy and happy the day after they were shipped! Got them at about 8am tuesday morning.
