Meyer Hatchery 2 questions please

So happy your chicks came and unbelievable that some are alive. So about half of yours are doing poorly. Have you tried a little nutri-drench? Ive heard of many chicks arriving in this condition but with water and warmth they can perk up. I don't think food is of utmost importance initially. At least that is what I've read because these would have been my first chicks.

Once they are all perked up post some pictures maybe tomorrow or the next day, I would love to see them.

No word from the post office yet. The 3:30 truck must have come by now. How obnoxious would it be if I called again???

Call!
Then you can worry a little less.

I wouldn't feel bad about calling again. I got my chicks from TSC, only because I can legally only have 6 (so I didn't want to order online). I called TSC 8 times the day they expected the chicks. The same girl answered the phone each time

Just apologize and explain that you're worried.

lol...funny...the poor girl probably recognized your voice!

Well, Im sorry to report. I got my chicks at 5:30 tonight the post office called. All DOA. So sad. The young girl at the post office was so upset, she told me they were not peeping at all. I went in and the young girl was so so upset I ended up feeling more bad for her than myself so not wanting to upset her further I just took the chicks and went home. I thought maybe they were just in really really bad shape I plugged in my brooder got the nutridrench but they were very cold to the touch, the box was cold, the heat packs I think were frozen they were more than dead. Before I left the post office I had the wherewithall to ask the girl to scan it as delivered just to see if the tracking number worked. YUP worked like a charm. I suspect someone dropped the ball on this one and no one wanted to scan it in for fear of being blamed maybe?? I'm really reaching here but its hard for me to fathom how this package that went through many, many hands before arriving and no one scanned it??? I guess if you have a package of chicks and hear no peeping you want nothing to do with it..

Interestingly enough I only got 15 chicks even though I ordered 16. So Ill call meyers tomorrow but not sure what Im going to do yet. It was a terrible week that started with joyous anticipation that turned into desperately waiting for the phone to ring for 3 SOLID DAYS, to finally sad resignation. I've been planning for months, reading everything I could, designed and built my coop in freezing cold weather for months so its disappointing to say the least. I will start again tomorrow but for today I just feel so bad for those cute little chicks and you know what, Ill admit it, I feel bad for me too staring at that empty brooder. But tomorrows another day and Im not going to wallow any further.

Thank you all for your concern and help, I know you all wished for a better outcome too and I truly appreciate it.

Hopefully my next posts will be all happy with some cute little chickie babies <3

So sorry for this sad loss and sad experience :-(. I found having chicks shipped pretty traumatic even though we had only 4 of 22 not make it. I found this place in my state where I hope to go for a nice mix this year so I won't have to worry as they go through the mail, maybe it would be near enough for you too since it's on the MA border, basically. I am in NH but about an hour north from this store. http://www.dodgegrain.biz/poultry
