Meyer hatchery bantams

400

This would be about a fourth of wear they could roam

After encountering the hawk my chickens rarely go in the open. Chickens are naturally afraid of predatory birds so i think if i take something to scare them when they are chicks maybe it will help.

Welcome to Backyard chickens. I like to err on the side of caution. I wouldn't free range banties. A nice roomy ,covered secure run would be fine for them - they don't need acres to roam.

Hawks are fine at snatching birds(or puppies or cats) standing right near their owners and just GONE!!!

As far as the amount of space bantams need...I believe the rule of thumb is 2 sq. feet per bird. That's just a general guideline, the more space a bird has, the more content they will be and less chance they will squabble with each other.

Good luck with your flock!

Welcome!

Sorry, living in Aus, I have no experience with Meyer but I see you have received some responses so I will just add that I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun. Unlike non chicken loving friends, family and colleagues, BYC’ers never tire of stories or pictures that feature our feathered and non feathered friends
