Meyer Hatchery Chicken pics anyone??

These were picked up yesterday. There are 26 "rare breed" assorted, 4 LeeAnns, and a lot from the LF bin and a few from Bantam bin. Want to guess on the breeds? I know 75% of thats here...

My, what an awesome assortment! You are going to have a beautiful flock. I can't guess any breeds, but this one caught my eye, and I would love to know what it is:

I just love the contrast between the chipmunk stripes and the pale background down.

Ok, thought I'd do a chick picture update.

My first batch of chicks from this year are just over 5 weeks old, and doing great, although not as cute as they were a few weeks ago and not as pretty as they'll hopefully be in a few more weeks--just gawky teenagers.

Petunia (Cuckoo Marans), Delphine (Blue Ameraucana), and Violet (Silver Gray Dorking)

Aaaand on Monday, I picked up my second batch of chicks for the year.

This batch is a Buff Orpington, Black Australorp, Welsummer, and Blue Laced Red Wyandotte.

Sooo, I dearly wanted a light blue or splash BLRW. That color contrast, and the sort of glow-y, frosted look of the light BLRWs, is what has made me long for one ever since I first saw one several years ago. The whole drive to Meyer's, I was thinking, "make it a light one, no whammy, no whammy, no whammy." As you can see, I got the exact opposite. She practically looks like a GLW. I assume she'll be black, or maybe super dark blue. I so wish there were a way to pick colors at Meyer's. Sigh. Anyway, I'm trying not to feel disappointed because she is still adorable and healthy and wonderful and I'm sure she will be a great addition to the flock. But my longing for a BLRW has not been fulfilled. Maybe next year, although I got so many chicks this year that we might not have room for more for a couple years at least. :/ Anyway, self-indulgent complaining over. Here is a proper introduction to the new girls.

Here is the BO, whom I have dubbed Narcissa:

And the BA, Nigella:

The Wellie, Hazel:

And, the BLRW. I had a name all picked out had she been lighter colored, but it doesn't feel right on a dark chick, so she shall remain nameless for now, probably until I can see if she is turning out blue or black. Regardless of my color preferences, I have to say that she is a super cute chick, very striking.

And, finally, the group shot--Hazel, ???, Nigella, and Narcissa

Oh My Gosh, Hyzenthlay- They are SO cute!

Yay for second batches of chicks!

(And thirds, and...!)

You never know with your BLRW. I thought since I could pick, and they had some that were obviously splash, and others were brown and others black, that if I took a black one, it would be black laced. But Blossom turned out to be a dark blue laced after all. So your little ??? could still be a blue. But with the splash, it would be obvious, because the chipmunk stripes are definitely way paler. So Meyer didn't have a bin you could pick from, huh? I thought that folks who were in driving distance could do that.

Well, you have a very nice combination here in your second group. BOs and BAs are nice chickens. I sold the ones I had to make room for this year's chicks, and I am kind of missing them.

Oh- and I just remembered- I have a photo like your two chicks, too!

It must be a chick thing!

Oh gosh hard to say, there are so many! It looks like you have at least one Silver Laced Wyandotte and probably a few BLRW or GLW as well. I thought I spied a Partridge Rock. The only one I'm certain about though is the Golden Buff (Sex-Link) at the top right of the pic above. The one next to it has the coloring of a Jubille Orp chick, wouldn't that be special! If you could post individual pics on the 25% you aren't sure about, preferably shots from the side where people can see legs that would be helpful.

Congrats to everyone who has gotten new chicks! They are all so cute!

I am also curious about these bins people talk about. I have picked up from Meyer twice, always on a Monday and I didn't see over hatch bins. There was one metal tub that had a couple week old birds, maybe a turkey poult in it. Less tempting for me I guess.

The bins are only filled one hatch days: Monday and Tuesday. They bring the unsold late hatchers and pullets out about 3:30-4:30pm. So those of us who know this time picking up our boxes to coincide. I got 3 feather leg marans, a white sultan, a buff brahma, a blue orp or andulusian, and I HOPE a creme legbar from the bins. Also what I hope is a Jubilee orp :) and a blue/black silkie and a mottled cochin banty. I'm going again this Monday to see about getting more. I'm looking for the brown chipmunk(legbars, penedesenca, welsummer...) chicks, and marans. The problem with the chipmunk color is that they can just as easily be partridge cornish or brown leghorns. Combs arent exactly easy for my to distinguish, even with my glasses.
There are at least 5 sicilian buttercups in those pics. I could see the double row of ridges.

I got a lot more chicks than I intend to raise. Too many "eggers for my flock. As it stands, at least half of the pullets are going to have blue/green eggs and my market wont support that. So back to Meyers I shall go. Then a classified listing for the eggers when I get replacements. Such fun!

Oh, and thanks for IDing the buff sex link. She must be the meal maker chick.

Interesting and good to know, thanks. Though of course my husband puts a llimit on how many we can get each year. First year was 6, this year 3, next year 3 again. I don't know what would happen if I brought home an extra. But we are working with limited coop space anyway. We have the perfect place for an addition but he says no. Are you in a more rural area that folks just want brown eggs? We are in the suburbs of Cleveland and our family, friends and neighbors love the colorful eggs. I am very tempted to get another EE but there are so many other breeds I want.
