Meyer Hatchery Chicken pics anyone??

We haven't been able to get hardly any food into Sunni's system in 3 days, and today someone suggesting giving her pureed scrambled egg and yogurt. We were able to give it to her from the syringe like water, and she now has a tiny crop full of food.

The food did her a lot if good too because she was preening and even took a dust bath! I think now that we have a way of getting her some food that she has a much better chance of pulling through this. Fingers crossed!

Lynn and NotableNancy: Congrats on the eggs! So exciting!

Yay! I hope that she continues to recover!

Once I clean my room and stuff, my mom will talk to me about ordering some chicks from Meyers.
I know I'm getting Buff Brahmas... Not sure about what other breeds I might get!
But note to self - sometime in the future order a load of EE's. O.O
Well then coming from another mom - Clean that room!!

Just an FYI, I did get 2 BB from Meyers because that is one of the breeds I really wanted and one turned out to be a roo so I had to give him away and my other is sort of a cross between a BB and a Light Brahma. She has a lot of white in her so if you really want BB's make sure to order a few because you never know what can happen. I guess that goes for all breeds we really want!

I want to see Juniors eggs too!

My EE, Olivia will be 23 weeks on Monday and no eggs too. Guess it depends on what chicken they were crossed with because Maddie the EE I lost was laying at 19 weeks.
Is Olivia squatting? Izzy was 18 1/2 weeks when I got the egg but 2 of my other EE's don't seem close to laying. Cleo, clean faced EE, isn't squatting but her comb got bigger and her whole face is red all the time so maybe. She is one of my most 'standoffish' so maybe she won't squat anyway. Just an always wait and see game, but it's fun!!

Wow, go away for a couple days and there's 77 unread posts in this thread!

I hope Sunni pulls through. So glad someone told you about the egg/water mix and that it's working.

Nancy... I love the egg. So jealous! Our EE will be 23 weeks in a couple days and still no egg. :(
Yup, you're not allowed to go away

Sunni is doing a lot better this morning. Last night she got up onto the roosts by herself, and this morning got down without help. She was chattering a lot, and spent 20 minutes exploring the porch while we got her breakfast ready. She was very stubborn when it came time to feed her with the syringe. She kept shaking her head and splattering my mom and myself with egg and yogurt mixture and then when we would let go of her to wipe it off she would make a run for it.

We did manage to give her 6 teaspoons of the egg and yogurt mixture though, and she was much happier once she had some more food in her. After she finished her breakfast I took her back out to the barn and let her explore while I fed and watered the other chickens and got her sisters outside. I always carry all of the girls in a small cage to get them outside, and while I was walking across the yard with them, Sunni was walking behind me just chattering away. I let her roam the yard while I got the other girls set up outside, and she loved that. She tried to pick at some grass and grit on the ground, but she still can't pick anything up in her beak. She did manage to get a tiny drink of my cats milk this morning by herself though.

Now she is out in her own little cage in the yard preening. She seems to be recovering really good. Hopefully soon she will be able to start eating on her own. She sure does get stubborn when we try to feed her with the syringe.

But I keep telling myself that that is a good thing. Lol

I got a few pictures of her exploring and preening on the porch today. (her beak was very dirty in these photos)

Did chores this morning in the brooder coop and realized that one of my Buff Orp "pullets" has a larger pinkish comb than the other 4 and so does one of New Hampshire "pullets"

. That's in addition to at least 10 boys out of the 29 chicks that I hatched out myself. Now I'm going to have a hard time choosing who's staying and who goes to freezer camp. I have 5 really nice Black Copper Marans roos out in the hoop coop too :( I'm not sure how much crowing I can handle.

She has been squatting for about a week now. When I went out earlier to check the nest boxes she came in the coop right after I collected the 1 little brown egg, then she hopped in a nest box and sat for about 20 minutes. I went to check after she came out, but no egg yet. So hopefully soon I'll get an egg from her. She is the most standoffish too and she squats for me, but I have to be quick or she won't let me rub her. She fights the urge to get her back rubbed.

Wow, a lot of roosters! So far I have been lucky to not get any yet.
