Meyer Hatchery Chicken pics anyone??

I am almost in tears now , I just went out to the brooder to find yet another dead chick, this one is my buckeye. I just want to go crawl in a hole somewhere. I can't believe I'm still loosing them. Now I fear for the poor little chicks I hatched myself. Are they going to die too? Am I going to loose all of them?! I don't know what I'm going to do.

So last Monday at 2 weeks old, we moved the chicks to the coop in a divided area. Kind of a variety of fencing to enclose them temporarily. Although somehow a couple of them every few days manage to find an escape route. They stay clear of the big girls so far and no trouble yet.

Here is our lighter colored EE, still working on her name. She is getting the salmon chest already and green legs.

Here is from left to right Lacie, GLW, Buffy, Buff Laced Polish and one of the Cuckoo Maran's, Cuckoo or Zany.

The big girls roosting near by to be near the action. Well the 5 older ones. Daisy the now 16 week old is not allowed to roost with them.

So here is our WR, Daisy watching nearby, poor little outcast.

Here is Ginger the Golden Buff and Sally, the Salmon Faverolle, taking a dust bath right next to the fence in their outdoor free range area.

Pepper came by to watch and peck at them so they would know their place.
Ash, our RIR pecked the little Golden Buff, Ginger and little Ginger pecked her right back and stood her ground. She seems to be becoming one of the leaders of this little group. Tough little thing, she'll probably try to lead the whole group once they're all together.

Here is Buffy with Lacie, the Partridge Rock one of my surprise chicks. Also to the side is Dottie the CW. This is their separate back pop door just for them.

Here is Splash, we believe she is a Blue Andulasion we think now since she acts just like the other Blue Andulasion we have.

Here are Zany and Cuckoo the twin Cuckoo Marans. They look even more alike now then before.

Our EE that used to be all brown, Greta. She is getting that salmon chest too. all signs of being a girl EE.

Izzie, my Light Brown Leghorn. (Named her after my other one that I lost to the dog) Lacie the GLW on left.

I did not get a good picture of Mini the Welsummer. She is catching up in size to the others, so we're not sure if she is a bantam or just small. She is really fast and ends up being a blur on the camera.

Andi, the Blue Andalusian is pretty fast too, so I did not get a good shot of her either. She is one of the leaders too it seems.

Our Golden Campine, "Campi" on the top, the middle black one is our BA, "Blackie." I missed getting a good picture of her too. It is so hard to keep track of so many chickens. The unnamed EE is in the pic too with Lacie the GLW.

What did you get again? I can't wait till everyone is in the main coop together cause honestly cleaning 3 brooders/ pens is getting really old! I have 9 (10 if we are counting husbands which i think do count!) other animals to care for so I have enough work to do

I originally had 5 French Black Copper Marans, one died just after the 48 hour mark. I ordered 1 meal maker and 4 rare breed assortment, out of those I ended up with an EE, speckled Sussex, black white crested polish and I believe the last is a buttercup

I know how you feel. We lost a total of 18 out of 37 chicks this year. No explanation. We even put Corrid in the water for our last batch and still lost 3 out of 6. They would be fine, running around, eating and drinking, then suddenly they would be on their death bed. No chance to do anything to save them. I was able to bring one back from almost dead on the day of arrival, then she got wry neck and we got that fixed, then she suddenly died a day later when she finally appeared fine. It really turned me off to chicks. I was like you and hated going to check on them because I was sure there would be another dead chick. All of our deaths happened within the first week I think. Once they were older than that they've all been fine.

I hope that's the end of your losses!

Sky, our BA with the hurt wing, wouldn't even keep a vet wrap type wrap on! I don't know how she got it off. But we were gone for the weekend and her wing is already looking better. It's not drooping nearly as much and she can move it fine so I don't think it was broken luckily!
Amber is losing large chunks of old skin with feathers attached. I'll have to take a pic. She's going to be bald pretty soon! Her new skin seems to have come in nicely and she is doing well.

Our SLP is getting her big girl feathers and they are so pretty. Great lacing and iridescent.

Here's some pics from before the weekend.
Sky and her hurt wing. :(

This was my first attempt at tying her wing up. Boomerang, the SLP, had to come check it out

And Amber our EE. You can see how ragged she looks with all her missing and oily feathers. I really hope she starts laying again. She was attacked 3 1/2 weeks ago. If she doesn't we might have to get another EE. I miss those blue eggs!

A good pic of Flower

Then of course she had to check out the camera to make sure it wasn't a treat

Here is our middle flock, Mona - Partridge Rock, Sterling - Blue Cochin, Flower - Belgian D'Uccle... finally maturing a little. They are 22 and 24 weeks already and barely any comb/wattle growth! I can understand the cochin but the partridge rock? She should be laying by now! Flower is the only one practicing her egg song. Boy is she a noisy little one!

The Polish are getting a lot friendlier. They hang around my feet waiting for some treats. Sorry for the leg shot. And yes those are my pj's and coop shoes.

A close up of our Splash Polish - Cloudy. I couldn't believe how close they were to me this day. They used to grab and run.

Our splash frizzle silkie - Misty. Hoping she's really a girl. The little ones are hard to get pics of!

Goldie - the GLP. We'll probably trade her with our friend and get one of our Buff Laced Polish back instead. I don't think Goldie will have very good coloring and she's extremely skittish. Even once you have her she doesn't calm down much. We'll get another in the future some-time though. My DH really liked them at the fair.

Here's our last 3 little ones. The blue on the left we still aren't sure what she is. I thought Blue Orpington when she was little but she doesn't seem stocky enough to me now. I tried to get a good pic of just her but she wouldn't cooperate. She has a single comb so either an andalusian or the orpington. We'll have to wait for ear lobe color to know for sure before she's grown.

Had to include a pic of the other member of the flock - Cinnamon

Here is Cinnamon in the coop

Oh no, so sorry. I missed this post when I was writing mine. I hope you can figure out what is going on.

Poor Amber, she does look a little rough here, but I'm so glad she is improving!

I didn't realize Flower's breed had puffy cheeks too. Now I have to get one of these in the future, she is beautiful! Great name too!

Ha, ha, I wish I could go out in just my pj's, I have to cover up due to mosquitos!

So adorable, I want one too! Does she stay full time in the coop?
Your flock and the extra fuffy member are so pretty! Thanks for sharing!

Yes, she's in there full time with them. At this moment she is napping with the polish in a corner of the run. She sleeps in the coop with them at night. The only problem is she occasionally gets pooped on when she picks a bad spot to sleep. ;)

We don't have much of a mosquito problem here. It is nice! I have only seen them in our yard once and that is when there was a lot of smoke nearby from a fire. It seemed they were all escaping the smoke.

if they from Meyers they might still replace them or give credit when mine died was a week old. And give me credit for it

You can try putting Apple Cider Vinegar in their water. I don't know why they are dying but it does not hurt to put a little bit in their water.

A good pic of Flower

She is beautiful!

She is beautiful!

She is the one that won 1st in breed and 3rd in the feather legged bantam class. She got beat in the class by two beautiful cochins. She is also my daughter's showmanship chicken. Funny thing is the showmanship judge only gave her 8 out of 10 points for the look of the chicken.

Our friend's silkie got 1st in blue silkies, 1st in all silkies, and 2nd in all of the show and the showmanship judge also gave her 8 out of 10! Don't know how you can get a 10 from that judge!

Here are some pics from the show.

After showmanship

Sky - BA, she took 4th

Flower - 1st and Honorable Mention for class

Mona - Partridge Rock - 1st

Marble - BR - 2nd
