Meyer Hatchery Chicken pics anyone??

X2!!!  Amber looks like my Cleo. Does Amber have a beard?  My Cleo is beardless and noodle comb so brown eggs from her. But they're nice sized and she lays quite often.
I love those BA's big brown eyes too! One of mine is the boss of the girls and can be tough on them but loves to be pet by me. Although she really screams at me when I don't give her treats. I mean, really screams!  LOL.
Do you think Sunni would miss being out with the girls or would you let her out with them every day. I don't know anyone with a house chicken so I don't know how it works. I think it would be cute to have her around all the time!
Although a friend of a friend lets their chicken in the house all the time, no diapers, and it lays an egg in the kitchen cabinet. Kinda gross that it poops everywhere though.

Yup, Amber is beardless. :) Her comb is also a lot different than Ellie's. Not sure what type of combs she has.

I would let Sunni out whenever she wants out. I am going to slowly transition her into the house to see how she does with it. She spends a lot of time in the house already and seems to like it, so we'll see how she does. :) I don't know anyone who has a house chicken either, but I have quite a few people who have them, and I've asked them lots of questions. I understand why some people don't use diapers, but they can really only get away with that if they have mostly tile or hard wood floors, and if the bird has mostly hard poops. Our floors are mostly carpet, and because of the way Sunni has to eat, her poop is a lot like a duck's. Which is why she will definitely be wearing diapers.

LOL! We are already over our limit but I did consider going up to our local breeder and picking one up today. We might do it on Sunday. :)
Ha, Ha, well one is better then none!

OK, completely jealous!!!
I know, that's what I was thinking. It's not a huge jump but if she is just sitting all day in a nest that could make her more fragile. I left her in the nest last night and again tonight. Tomorrow I'm going to put her in a wire cage out in the run with the other girls. So she can see them but they can't touch her. She may not even be broody anymore, now she's just hurt. She could hardly put weight on her leg at all today. She ate and drank several times but if I put food and water in with her at least she can get to it without being chased away.
I kept finding eggs under Moe even though she was broody and then I figured out why... other girls were getting in the nest with her and laying the egg with her in it. Of course she's sitting in the favorite nest but that doesn't stop them from using it! It's pretty funny to see them squished in there with her with all her Cochin fluffiness! Maybe they're doing that with Olivia?

Stinkin' hawks.
We're going to try and do the same thing and I checked last night, she is sleeping in the nest too. Plus, she is starting to peck when we chase her out. So I figured I'd convert the chicks little runaway area to an area for her. They are almost too big for it anyway. Guess I will have to wire it off so they can't get in there, she's so mean she'd hurt them for sure. We're trying to figure a way to put a wire bottom on, since they say that helps break the broodiness.

My husband actually suggested that we just pick up some fertile eggs for her! I was shocked. I was the one who said no to that and I hardly believe I did. We have too many chickens as it is, 22 is over our limit. Plus, not sure where I'd find those fertile eggs.

Here is a picture of their little area that I plan to covert for Olivia, it is in the run too. We're going to put in food and water and give her a couple days and let her out and see. We'll give her layer food too. Right now they're all on regular 15% chick starter grower since the little ones can't have that calcium. Maybe the layer food will encourage egg production. I miss our little green eggs!

Hello everyone! I haven't posted on here in a couple days. How is everyone and the chickens? I took some pictures of my girls yesterday. They will be 21 weeks tomorrow. Still no eggs from the other girls. Sunni, Daffodil, Ellie, Lizzie, and Amber are getting close, but still no sign that Lilly will be laying soon. Alice and Alice have been laying 6 eggs per week, and Lucy has been laying about 2 per week.

Amber - (EE)

Sunni - (Buff Orp) We are considering making Sunni a house chicken. Just so it's easier for me to feed her, and we are going to try switching her to pellet feed, and we are going to try the poultry nipples to see if those will help her eat and drink on her own. She is able to eat pieces of cat food no problem, so I'm hoping that she will be able to eat pellets too. Someone suggested trying the poultry nipple waterers as well, because all she has to do is peck at them and the water goes into her mouth. It's less work for her that way. The only problem with the nipple waterers is that we have no way to keep them from freezing in the winter. Which is another reason why we are considering just moving her into the house. I think I might have to start shopping for chicken diapers soon.

I think both my little EE's will have single or noodle combs. They also have puffy cheeks. I hope at least one lays a different egg color then brown.

She lays her eggs in a cabinet? Wow, that is funny!

Sounds like a good plan!

That looks like a good spot and I think a wire bottom would help too. Also, if you see her lay an egg in there you know she's not broody anymore!

I'm curious if everyone's new EE's will lay blue or green eggs. I think if a lot of people are getting brown then I'll get mine from somewhere else than Meyers. I still don't think one of mine is laying yet but for sure only 1 out of the 3 lays green and I may take my chances elsewhere and get chicks from my feed store next spring. They use a hatchery in Texas; I think Ideal. But if so many people are getting brown eggs I think Meyers should work on getting back to the green eggs. Or maybe it's kinda hard to and I don't understand all the genetics?

My Moe has been in the cage all day and is eating and drinking but not as much as usual. She isn't putting any weight on the leg at all. But at least she's outside with the other girls rather than in the coop all day. We'll see how she is tomorrow.

Is it true? I was thinking of ordering EEs from Meyers because I've been happy with my order but I really want some blue/green eggs. Are a lot of there EEs laying brown eggs?

I only got two EEs from them, and I have yet to find out if they lay green or brown. I think Amber is going to lay brown because she seems to be a mix of some sort, but Ellie seems pretty pure. She should be laying eggs some time in the next week or two, and I will post pictures of her egg when she lays it!

Oh! I almost forgot to post about what the girls did yesterday! I was leaning down picking shavings out of the feed, and I pulled out my iPod to check the time. Sunni was absolutely fasinated with it, so I was showing her little moving pictures. While I was squatting down doing that for her, Annie, Alice, Ellie, and Amber all jumped up onto my back. Then Sunni thought it would be a good idea and hopped on too. So there I stood all hunched over with 5 almost full grown chickens on my back. I was expecting them to grow out of this, but nope! They still do it just as much as they did when they were little.

Well, it was a failed attempt to put her in that cage, she kept trying to squeeze out between the slats of the pallets. I need to put chicken wire inside all the areas before we try that again. I was afraid she'd hurt herself. I was hoping the drama of moving her and all her fuss would break her from her broodiness, but no, she is back to the nest box. Oh well...

Well my first to from the February 11th hatch both laid pretty green eggs. These to I have from the July 29th hatch are just about 9 weeks old, so I am not sure about egg color. I am concerned about what they will lay since they have single to noodle looking combs coming in, although one may still be a modified pea comb. Maybe they will lay green or blue, not sure.

I'm wondering the same about the EE's, guess I will find out about mine in another 10 weeks or more. Guess we can learn as well from the others with EE's on here.

Guess we will see.... I hope you can get some that lay blue or green.

Your girls are funny. That was a lot of weight on your back since they are not little anymore, I am surprised that you didn't fall over! Too bad no one else was there to take a picture, that would have been a neat picture!

around three weeks
Cute, I love the GLW, I have one that is almost 9 weeks now and she is really turning into a beauty.

Here we go... Almost 19 weeks. None laying yet.

Olivia - EE (She better lay a green or blue egg)!!!

Diamond - SS

Daisy - CW

Will post the other 3 in a sec!

Here they are

Bianca - WR

Goldie - BO

Pearl - BA

I'm soooo ready for one of them to start laying!
Pretty girls, I bet Daisy will lay first! Of course I could be wrong, not sure when the SS start laying, but my CW was one of my first and I heard the BA's take longer and my BO, EE, and CW all took longer then the others. Now if you had a leghorn, you'd probably already would have eggs. It'll be interesting to see who starts laying first with the varieties you have.
