Meyer Hatchery Chicken pics anyone??

Sounds like our chicken pox. Just let it run it's course and the cases where it is inside your body are way worse than just on the outside.

Our girls are doing good. Since the garden is done for the season (except for the two boxes we have row covers on) I've been letting them into the garden for most of the day every day. They love it. It's nice because their run opens into the garden which is separate from the rest of the yard by a small fence so the dogs can also be out while they are. They have already picked everything clean including two large sunflowers.

I am still waiting for Amber to lay again! She still has some feathers growing in and I'm really hoping when those are done she'll start laying again. If not, we'll have to get our selves another EE! ;)

Did I tell you guys we sold that young EE we bought at the chicken races? It was sneezing when we brought it home and had a slightly runny nose (of course we didn't notice any of this until she was home). She stunk when we got her too. We gave her a bath, vitamins, etc and she improved a lot. No more sneezing and you couldn't see anything coming out of her nose. She didn't stink either. But we didn't want to introduce her to our flock and risk passing something to them. We found her a new home that only has one other chicken as they just lost their other one to a fox. They didn't mind if she gave their one a "cold" since it was just the one and they don't plan on getting any more so they didn't care if they were carriers of anything. Good deal for us! I didn't want to have to figure out what she had and/or cull her!

We are going to a chicken show in a couple weeks. Maybe we'll come home with a silkie. ;)

I was really hoping it wasn't pox I just hope it's mild and don't get to bad
So sorry, I hope it is not too bad for them and they get over it quickly.

My broody finally decided to stop being broody! I completely cleaned the coop/nests/changed sand etc in the coop so she was locked out for hours. Also, my run is on a slight slope and I realized the sand was drifting towards the low end so we raked and shoveled it all up to the top end. All the commotion was freaking them out a bit and then it was hours of fun to scratch through the newly turned sand so she forgot about sitting on the nest. Or her little pea brain just decided it was time to stop. Probably that.

Does anyone else have a young one molting (under 1 yr. old)? I think that's why Izzy my EE stopped laying. I'm finding lots of feathers in the run and they seem to be coming from her.

Lynn- did Olivia start to lay again?
ChickenMomma- How is Sunni? Is she eating any more on her own? Any more eggs?
Olivia still has not laid an egg

At least she is acting like herself otherwise but she still does not squatted for me. She's probably afraid I'll grab her and put her back in the cage. She has put weight back on so I am hoping for an egg any day now.

Dartfreak75 , my birds have Fowl Pox. I just figures it out this morning. Here's a few pics of mine, poor babies. I just ordered the vaccine for all of the pullets. I ended up culling all of the old 2 yr old hens, since I was going to sell them for soup anyway. I didn't want to spread it to anyone else's place

Wow, they look rough, poor chickens. I hope that you do not have too much trouble with it and not too many catch it.

I went out to check on the girls and Sunni is in the nest box laying her 5th egg, and Ellie was singing the egg song and going in and out of the nest box. I really hope she lays green eggs.
Congrats on Sunni! So sorry for the hawks, I am so frustrated with the ones here too.

Sunni layed a HUGE egg today! It was 2.2 ounces! That's twice the size of the other 4 that she layed this week.
Wonder if it's a double yolker?

Can't wait to see pics if you get one!

Well, Sunni is sleeping in the garage tonight. The other chickens (mostly the adults) have started bullying her. Her comb has another big chunk missing out of it. :( I guess she must be getting pushed towards the bottom of the pecking order. It would make sense, because she is the weak one in the flock. I feel so bad for her. After all she's been through she suddenly has 15 or so chickens going after her. As much as I love my chickens, they sure are cruel creatures sometimes.

Our girls are free ranging in the garden right now which is surrounded by a small fence to keep the dogs out. Our big girls fly over it to get to the rest of the yard. I just opened our sliding glass door to throw a treat to our dogs who were on the patio off the second floor of the house. The big dog (Jasmine) sniffed the treat then the little dog (Basil) ran over to check it out, next thing I know our BA (Sky) is coming over and checking it out! She tried to take it but Basil ran off with it. She was sitting and chewing it and Sky came over and kept trying to take it from her! I had to call my husband and daughter over. It was hilarious to watch a chicken trying to take something from the dogs. Apparently we've trained the dogs not to mess with the chickens now. lol!

My Meyer babies are 5 months old today! Unfortunately, I hurt my neck this morning, so the pictures I got of them today are truly awful. I'm going to try to get better pictures of them once my neck is better, though. :/

Anyway, here they are!

I didn't get a picture of my smooth-feathered Cochin boy from Meyer's Black Frizzle Cochin bantams, but he's still here. My Meyer Easter-Egger bantam had to go because I didn't have enough pens, so my most recent picture of him is from Thursday, the day he went to his new home. Here is the EE bantam before he left for his new home:

Very sorry about your neck. :hugs The pictures are still stunning. Your girls are beautiful. Are you sure they are only 5 months though? My girls will be 6 months old next week Sunday, and I thought yours were only a week younger.

I wasn't sure if any of you wanted to see, but I took some pictures of the screw that Sunni ate last week.

I also tried taking some pictures of Sunni's goofy looking comb, but she wouldn't hold still and my camera wasn't cooperating. I'll try and get some pictures of the girls today and tomorrow for their 23 week picture update.

Oh and I almost forgot something! Sunni layed another big egg today. 2.5 ounces! :celebrate She has layed an egg 8 out of 9 days! Which is hard for me to believe since she is just starting out.

Gosh, sometimes I think I talk about Sunni too much. :gig

So the girls were out free ranging in th shrubs and I'm pretty positive I heard a very dramatic egg song! They are 17 weeks. Worth it to climb around in th shrubs and see if I can find our first (or not!) egg?!
