This is one of the two chicks I got from the barging bin. He/she is do cute.
Has anyone ordered the adopt me barging bin chicks?
What did you get?

It looks to me like it's only for the brown layer assortment, males and you have to buy 15 or more

Correction - on Meyer's FB page it says females

I would definitely give everyone probiotics everyday. They are fine to give & REALLY good for the gizzard. As in humans, bird GI tract is the 1st line of immune defense. So if there is a good supply of the good bacteria there, your chickens will have a head start on being healthy & be able to better digest the nutrients they need from their food. I agree with only giving the hen that is laying soft shell/shell-less eggs the extra calcium. Make sure she gets plenty of sunshine to activate the vitamin D, so the calcium is absorbed.

It's definitely a good idea to see if there is a bakery who you can get shells from, but oyster shells have more calcium than egg shells.

If you decide to get the amino acids, I would treat your feather picker and your one with the egg issues. Both can be caused by nutritional issues.
All great advice. Thx!

So cute!

Ha ha, yup, it is funny everyone in the house is like Mom or Lynn you have to see this commercial...they keep saying that I'll be the next one doing that.

Just crazy...poor chickens

Congrats, cute little ones!!

I wish I could keep getting chicks like you! I am addicted but have someone controlling me here and holding me back.

Otherwise,,,,watch out!

I hope that the feed switch works but give it time, maybe introduce livers or ground beef to up their protein too just until they start improving, fresh garlic for natural antibiotics, but not for too long with the garlic. That is strange to have so many issues. What feed do you give them now and what are you switching back to? Just curious..
They do like a nice blow-dry!! I've done it to 2 different ones.. my EE fell asleep on her back while I dried her and Moe just stood there like the chicken in the commercial. Too funny!
Chicken livers... good idea. I bet they're cheap at the store. I'm finishing up the Agway crumble feed and switching back to the Purina layer feed. I also have some of the Feather Fixer left I'm finishing up.
I finally got a small dog crate, bit the bullet and bought one, so Moe will be going into it tomorrow to try and break her broodiness. Did you let yours out during the day or keep her in there 24/7 for 4 days?
I hope you get the issues figured out! We had just gotten rid of the lice we were having and then we get tons of rain for days in a row while we were out of town and the girls were locked in their smaller run for a week. They didn't have anything dry to dust bathe in (they emptied the tub I keep in the run with them) so the lice came right back. Sprayed everyone with protector again today. Our BR is definitely more sensitive to them. She has a lot of feathers missing on her belly and back end and has red skin. No one else shows any signs of them (I spray everyone though).

Here's some pics of our EE.

The above pic is around 5-6 months old, right before she was attacked. She's not nearly so pretty since then. Here's a more recent pic of her (almost 1 1/2 yr old now). Her entire back and rear end were basically torn off. She also had wounds under her wing. She hasn't molted yet so there are still some feathers around her neck that we had to cut to clear the wounds. Her back has minimal feathers on it. I think from the scarring. I hope one day she'll get her pretty coat back, but it's ok if she doesn't because she's friendly.

And here's some pics of our bantam EE

Her head started turning white at this age

Here she is now at 3 months
Initially I was thinking I had a bug issue because they didn't have a dust bath for so long with our awful weather. I won't make that mistake again. Good to hear you caught the problem and it's not to bad.
Your EE's are so pretty!! War wounds and all.

My goodness, we did have a lot going on in this thread. I almost forgot....

I found somebody to take my extra roos. I'm not sure which one of us is more excited. Definitely the right person for them. Yay!
Fantastic!!!

So cute... I never got one before.

Yup. It's the female brown layers. Free shipping is great but 15 is a lot!
You could always keep a few... sell a few. Hard to pass up

Adorable! Love the color and the pouf! No bargain bin, just a meal maker and I got a Barred Rock.
Oh wow, so adorable. they are growing fast! Here's Olivia at different ages. She has the gray blue coloring now. and Maddie... she ended up with a black head She turned out so pretty, I wish I had her longer then I did :( Wish I could figure out a way to get another one like her. and here are some pictures of my other two EE's Ellie and Greta Not sure if these pics help, but it's fun showing off my EE's! I hope that you figure out what's going on with your chickens soon or maybe time will just resolve all the issues, it sounds like you have a lot of good plans in place now to get her healthy again.
So beautiful!
