Meyer Hatchery Chicken pics anyone??

These guys have BIG personalities!!! Gidget has a set of air sacs on her and is LOUD! She follows the Silkies around thinking she is a big girl, until she gets cold. Gizmo is shier & darts out to check if the coast is clear.

Brownie & Coco (the silkies) are trying to figure out what the heck these small fluff balls are!

The experience with the breeder was amazing! I got to see all their breeding stock, including the mommy & daddy for my babies (GORGEOUS!!!!) and some amazing breeds! I felt like I was in chicken heaven! My son got to see a chicken hatch out of an egg in the incubator - we were there at the right time!

And we got to pick out our 2 chicks - pick of the hatch!!!

What a great day...

Awesome! Looks like you two picked out some cuties! They'll be fun to watch grow too.

Here are my Meyer babies today, 6 weeks old! :D

Georgette the BCM:

Mabel the Welsummer:

I've decided Georgie and Mabey are girls. Reality be darned! (Actually, at this point, I would think it would be more evident if they were boys. :) So that means I've gotten 100% pullets in my pullet orders from Meyer's.)

Oh, and because they are beautiful and sweet, here are my older girlies at 7 weeks. For anyone happening by this post, these girls are not Meyer birds.

Poppy the Legbar:

And the big-boned Bielefelder, Violet.

They do definitely look like girls. I can't believe how BIG they are!

Awesome!!!! Are you going to put them in with the Silkies or separate? I took some pics of little ones today... 10 weeks old... Just for others if they see... these are not from Meyer... Hate to play favorites but this is Eva (Zsa Zsa's sister) and she is quite the character... and soooo friendly!! She loves to hang out on my arm and then ride my shoulder. They are both quite friendly and would recommend this breed highly... so far!! Close up of Lola and Eva on rt. And my 2 CC from a local breeder .... I finally named them... Bonnie Blue is in the back; she has a bigger crest and in the front is Skye They are always together.
Beautiful flock! I love Lola's expression in that picture, and your Brabanters and Legbars are gorgeous!! :love
I have a 9 week old White Maran from Meyer. I must say I have fallen in love with this graceful girl! She came with a SS and an Austra White. The are in a grow out pen with 4 lavender Ameraucana and she has taken to watching over them almost like a broody. She reminds me of a ballerina in a beautiful white costume. Anyone else out there have a White Maran?

Such a beauty! My BC Marans, Louise, makes me think of a ballerina, too, with her legwarmers on and everything. :love But my other two Marans, Georgie and Frou-frou, are not nearly as graceful.
THEY ARE HERE!!!! **NOTE - THESE ARE NOT MEYER BIRDS!!! Gidget Gizmo Both - They are my beautiful pair of Crested Cream Legbars!!!
:weee Yay! They are precious! I love the names, too! It's kind of funny how we all wanted Legbars from Meyer's but ended up going to breeders, though...

My son picked out the names... they do kind of fit though. Meyers didn't have any! The breeder I went through said she has heard that the big hatcheries have had a hard time getting their eggs to hatch for some reason. She has had almost perfect hatches for the last 6 months & has been able to fulfill every order on the 1st or 2nd clutch! Her adult birds were GORGEOUS!!!!! I'm actually glad it worked out this way - I think these birds are going to turn out very good quality. If I move to a bigger lot, I may have to go get a boy from them & breed them ;) They have 2 pairs, so I would just have to make sure it's diverse genetics...

Yes we named her Aurora because she is as pretty as a princess! I swear, she reminds me of a ballerina from Swan Lake. Here are a few other pictures of her...The picture I all ready posted has the Austra White next to her. The Austra White is a bit aloof and a bit flighty but I am very curious to see if she lays as early as Meyer says could be a possibility. I will faint is she lays at 12 weeks! I don't think so as she doesn't have any red comb or waddles to speak of. I ordered a flock of 10 from Meyer 2 years ago, all female and ended up with 9 girls and one mis sexed Columbian Wyandotte roo. I decided to give it a try since I free range a lot of the day. I quickly learned the importance of having a rooster when you free range. He was awesome until he turned very human aggressive at 9 months old. I rehomed him, to someone with a free range chicken egg production farm, and needed all the mean roos she could get as she had over 200 hens out in a huge field. Last I saw of him in my rear view mirror was him sparring for his little harem with another roo. I replaced him with a beautiful black Ameraucana roo.. The Meyer flock layed like gangbusters the first season, and they are in their second. True to what I have read, I have seen about a 20% decrease in eggs, but they still are amazing. I did get to thinking though, and started this spring to hatch some breeds I have dreamt about, and to start raising a second flock for when these girls go into molt, and the eggs slow down, I will have the adolescent flock up and running. I intend to always have two separate flocks of 10 to 12 birds each with their own roo protector. These 3 Meyer girls will probably join my existing flock, as I just hatched out some Swedish Flower Hen chicks and am hoping for a roo in that bunch. I bought the White Maran to hopefully get an olive egger from the match with my Australorp roo. I love this Maran so much, I just ordered the last 3 from their Sept. 3rd hatch..lol. I tried to order some Austra White too, but as you say.. not available at this time!
How cute are those legs??
Yes, her legs are so dainty!!! That's adorable!!! Sounds like you have a great plan with the 2 flocks. You'll always have lots of eggs.

THEY ARE HERE!!!!

Both - They are my beautiful pair of Crested Cream Legbars!!!
Adorable!!! Glad you had such a great day. Do you remember what other breeds they had? I love learning about new breeds. Love that name... Gidget!!

Thanks!! I didn't think I'd enjoy my 2nd flock as much as my first just because it was all so new, but the new ones are so fun. Lots of personality. The silkie just cracks me up.

Well, the lady I'm ordering my AM pullets from only has blues and no splashes. BUT I'm getting two blues and so excited. I'm surprised my DH isn't having a fit. Hopefully, the shipping goes well. That always makes me nervous. And what about quarantine? I ordered the little food dishes that go on the side of the crate. (Thank you to whoever recommended that months ago!) I made a spot in the garage for the crate. How long do you quarantine?

Ok, finally got a couple pics of our ccl. As with everyone else's ccl, these are from a local breeder, not Meyer.
We haven't named then yet.

Our little roo.

And our pullet

And because it's funny, I caught her in the middle of a strange move, and our bcm photo bombed.

Blues are beautiful! They are definitely on my list!

I quarantined for 2 1/2 weeks. It is recommended that you do so for 30 days but, I felt like a shorter time was sufficient because my started pullets came from Meyer, they were vaccinated and 2 other people who got some from there at the same time did not quarantine and nether their old birds or the new ones suffered any health issues.

My birds were shipped overnight with gro-gel and seemed to travel well. As long as yours arrive to you by the next day, they should be fine. Have you gone on usps.com to see an estimate of how long it will take to get to you from the breeder? When you pick them up at the post office, you might want to bring a water spritzer so you can most the girls in case they got overheated. Otherwise, they should be fine.
