Meyer Hatchery Chicken pics anyone??

Ok, I must know. Is a white feather stuck to your claw a chicken's equivalent to toilet paper stuck to your shoe???

Oh, I love this!! Hahahahaha! :gig

I have a 9 week old White Maran from Meyer. I must say I have fallen in love with this graceful girl! She came with a SS and an Austra White. The are in a grow out pen with 4 lavender Ameraucana and she has taken to watching over them almost like a broody. She reminds me of a ballerina in a beautiful white costume. Anyone else out there have a White Maran?

My daughter's Eleanor looks like Lola too!
It seems like a pretty common color but I got 4 EE's my first order and none of them are that pretty buff color... I finally got one!! Did you post a pic of Eleanor yet??

My EE, Ellie looks a lot like Lola too, I guess you finally got the typical EE look that you wanted. They sure are pretty! I had to comment about your EE, Leyla, she is the most unique one I have seen with that black beard but then lighter feathering and blue on her back. So cool looking.

Of course Zsa Zsa and Eva take the prize though. What kind are they again?

I can see why you would want to use the Oxine. I would be worried about cross contamination too.

It is a battle to keep things dry for them. I think the way we're set up that the run would still get a lot of sun even if the roof was covered since it is really tall. We had to increase the height on one end due to moving it to a slope. I have the opposite problem in the coop, I have to mist in there every week or so since it is so dry. Since I use the deep litter method it needs to have a tad of moisture to decompose. The coop smells fine, the run on the other hand does not, well when it is dry it is fine, but this rain almost every day lately. Oh well eventually will fix it. There is always something to fix or do, isn't there?
I know... finally a buff colored EE. Can't wait to see her grow up. They're so pretty and yes, Leyla looks pretty different. I've seen a few pics of buff colored EE's with a black head and they're really cool looking. And this is why I have one on order for Sept... love watching them feather out. And of course hoping for a green or blue egg!!!
Yes, always something to do but then if there wasn't what else would we do? Just sit and watch them? That would be nice once in a while though!

Oh my, she is awfully pretty!! I have a rare marans on order for Sept and wouldn't mind getting a white one!! Did you name her yet? You sound like you have a pretty flock; do you have older ones too or are these your first chicks?
I would love an Austra White too... keep us posted on her and when she lays. I don't know anyone else with one of those and I'm curious about them. Can't get one for Sept. Sold out.

Yes we named her Aurora because she is as pretty as a princess! I swear, she reminds me of a ballerina from Swan Lake. Here are a few other pictures of her...The picture I all ready posted has the Austra White next to her. The Austra White is a bit aloof and a bit flighty but I am very curious to see if she lays as early as Meyer says could be a possibility. I will faint is she lays at 12 weeks! I don't think so as she doesn't have any red comb or waddles to speak of. I ordered a flock of 10 from Meyer 2 years ago, all female and ended up with 9 girls and one mis sexed Columbian Wyandotte roo. I decided to give it a try since I free range a lot of the day. I quickly learned the importance of having a rooster when you free range. He was awesome until he turned very human aggressive at 9 months old. I rehomed him, to someone with a free range chicken egg production farm, and needed all the mean roos she could get as she had over 200 hens out in a huge field. Last I saw of him in my rear view mirror was him sparring for his little harem with another roo. I replaced him with a beautiful black Ameraucana roo.. The Meyer flock layed like gangbusters the first season, and they are in their second. True to what I have read, I have seen about a 20% decrease in eggs, but they still are amazing. I did get to thinking though, and started this spring to hatch some breeds I have dreamt about, and to start raising a second flock for when these girls go into molt, and the eggs slow down, I will have the adolescent flock up and running. I intend to always have two separate flocks of 10 to 12 birds each with their own roo protector. These 3 Meyer girls will probably join my existing flock, as I just hatched out some Swedish Flower Hen chicks and am hoping for a roo in that bunch. I bought the White Maran to hopefully get an olive egger from the match with my Australorp roo. I love this Maran so much, I just ordered the last 3 from their Sept. 3rd hatch..lol. I tried to order some Austra White too, but as you say.. not available at this time!
How cute are those legs??

Thanks for posting!

These guys have BIG personalities!!! Gidget has a set of air sacs on her and is LOUD! She follows the Silkies around thinking she is a big girl, until she gets cold. Gizmo is shier & darts out to check if the coast is clear.

Brownie & Coco (the silkies) are trying to figure out what the heck these small fluff balls are!

The experience with the breeder was amazing! I got to see all their breeding stock, including the mommy & daddy for my babies (GORGEOUS!!!!) and some amazing breeds! I felt like I was in chicken heaven! My son got to see a chicken hatch out of an egg in the incubator - we were there at the right time!

And we got to pick out our 2 chicks - pick of the hatch!!!

What a great day...

I've decided Georgie and Mabey are girls. Reality be darned! (Actually, at this point, I would think it would be more evident if they were boys. :) So that means I've gotten 100% pullets in my pullet orders from Meyer's.)

Oh, and because they are beautiful and sweet, here are my older girlies at 7 weeks. For anyone happening by this post, these girls are not Meyer birds.

And the big-boned Bielefelder, Violet.

That is awesome! What a great way to spend the day with your son! I hope you took a lot of photos to look back on. What a special memory for both of you.
