That does sound very frustrating. You're being very kind to her to give her to the end of the week. Seems so odd that she does not let you know what she is doing. Hopefully she is just being overprotective and they are really great hens. She gave me options. I want to give it till the end of the week to see if she improves. If not, I can choose another color. I really hope they are worth all this aggravation. She even offered a refund, but I'm not quite ready to start my search again.
Your Dominiques do look so different, even in coloring.I, also, find it very interesting how, in the same breed, one hen looks like it should have been laying for weeks while another is just starting to get her wattles. Her is photo of my Dominiques side by side.
Even though Desdemona is a bit blurry, you can see the difference in development. Melissa, the one that is more advanced, has always been the smaller of the two. Isn't that crazy?
Two days in a row, Jed (the most mature RIR) gave what I could only imagine was the loudest egg song possible and no egg. Is that normal? Have any of you experienced a false alarm like that?
I looked under the coop and in the run and there is no sign of an egg anywhere. I imagine if someone was eating the eggs, there would be at least a wet spot on the ground from spilled egg whites. But, I have not seen anything. Is she just practicing her song?? It is a mystery to me.
Take me to your planet! Nice feeders! Yes, Eggnes is definitely a Barred Rock and Bobbie a Dominique! Love the name Eggnes, btw.
Thanks! Good to know it's not just me![CONTENTEMBED=/t/738837/meyer-hatchery-chicken-pics-anyone/6670#post_13818352 layout=inline]Quote:[/CONTENTEMBED]That does sound very frustrating. Your Dominiques do look so different, even in coloring. We've had quite a few chickens make a fool out of me by singing the egg song days in a row, but no eggs, so it is normal for them to do that. My husband always laughed at me when they first started because I would run out to the nest boxes and no eggs anywhere. I figured they were just laughing at me behind my back. She should lay an egg within the next week or two, but do keep an eye out for hidden eggs.I, also, find it very interesting how, in the same breed, one hen looks like it should have been laying for weeks while another is just starting to get her wattles. Thank you all for every kind word. This has been rough, but when I step back, life is good. Hopefully the new girls will be healthy enough to travel by Monday. Otherwise, I will be choosing another color pullet. Either black or mauve. Originally, I didn't want black because Peppy is black and would produce all black babies. But mauve is so different, perhaps it is a good option. I really wanted to stick to BBS, but I guess we'll see what happens. Thankfully the seller has been sending me a message just about everyday to keep me updated. Not knowing was definitely worse. I may just have to look around a little more, just in case![]()

Worst comes to worst, I'll try my hand at hatching again and just pray that I don't get all boys again!
I stole the name Eggnes from another BYC contributor... Thanks!
I have 2 BOs like this...lolI guess it is good that she is willing to work with you. I don't blame you for not wanting to start your search over or settle for a different color. You had your heart set on these two. I guess at this point, you have to believe that, if it was meant to be, it will be. I hope it works out for you!
@NotableNancy and @trsturself , I loved reading about the differences in your birds and your friend's birds and how their interactions with you have changed over time. I guess there are a lot of variables that affect how the girls interact with you. Very interesting!
