Meyer Hatchery Chicken pics anyone??

barnie.gif

Another call from Meyer . . .

No BLR Wyandotte's. None.

And only 2 BX Marans.

That's 10 less than I ordered.

Oh well. That means I can keep shopping !!!!

Is it first ordered first served and then after sexing they don't have enough?

I haven't heard of this happening either.

Makes me wonder if I'll get all of my order next week!

Sorry this happened to you. I hope you end up getting something you like!

I imagine that the Marans either didn't hatch as well as hoped, or were mostly cockerels.

The BLRW's were a mistake - according to the 2nd customer service rep, they were never available - just a mistake by the first person.

It just throws me off, because I'm already dealing with chicks that are going to be almost 3 weeks apart in age. To add another group means another spot for brooding . . .

Maybe I'll just wait til spring . . . I'm not sure what to do.

At any rate, the folks at Meyer have been wonderful, and Johnny-on-the-spot as far as taking care of things

To be honest, after trying my hand at hatching with my little Brinsea Mini Advance.. it makes me realize how difficult it is to depend on hatch rates. How they handle so many orders boggles my mind. I know they have super incubators, and the like, but it must be difficult to fill all those orders. I think as far as hatcheries go, they are one of the best. I am hoping my six little new ones arrive in this summer weather.

12 pullets from the Rare Marans collection
  1 Meyer Meal Maker
  6 Fry Pan Bargain

I'm actually starting over.  I had a total hip replacement in June, so re-homed my flock in preparation for that. (I still maintain that I cannot possible be old enough to require a new hip!)

I started out with Buff Orps, Wellsummers and Marans.  I loved them each and all!  They were about 6 years old.

Last year, I added red sex links and Tetra Tints (from TSC) - they just aren't the same as the heritage breeds! (And the TT rooster was mean!)

So I currently have 16 Bielefelders that are about 2 weeks old - LOVE LOVE LOVE !  they are so full of life!  And (google them) so beautiful when grown!!
                                 8 BBW turkeys
    and awaiting my Meyer order

:D
How about you ?

Awesome! I hope your hip is fully healed! I hope starting over with new chicks make up for the pain you went through.

I have 4 RIRs, 4 golden buff, 3 Delaware, 3 black australorp, 3 buff Orpington, 2 barred rock, 2 Dominique that are 21 weeks old. I also have 2 EEs that I got as started pullets ten weeks ago that are 26-30 weeks old. I have never had chickens before this so I am learning on the fly with a lot of help from my BYC friends, of course! I have plans to expand my flock next spring. I'd love to hear about your Bielefelders. Are they good layers?

3 weeks apart would be tough. And I use an ecoglow so I don't think I could do it

I have one angry girl in a nest box. I was going to just leave her alone, but I think she's scaring the others out of the coop where their food is.
LOL... I'd be scared too!! Are you going to let her alone, give her eggs or break her? My EE was broody and tried to bite me all the time. I had to put her in a crate in the garage at night cause
she started such a ruckus in it.

How many and who do you have laying now? Are you able to tell? What are you planning for next spring?

I didn't tell my family new chicks were coming... do you think they'll notice??

They already think I'm crazy so I guess what's a little more crazy right??

Got the notice... they shipped!! I swear I won't panic waiting for them this time
Ha, ha, you didn't tell them? Funny! Maybe they won't notice the extras. I'm in the crazy house with you, but I can't order since mine family would notice little chicks since it's been awhile since we had some.

x2
Shipping
Trying not to panic
My family knows-maybe that's why they think I'm crazy!
So glad to hear there are so many chicks shipping for all of you this week. Look forward to the pics! I also hope all arrive safely!

Ha ha ha! Hubby out if town for the month but comes home for the day on Tuesday. Leaves Wednesday morning hopefully before the post office calls!

What did you end up ordering? Sorry that it didn't work out with your order, guess it was not meant to be. Meyer's is super nice though so hopefully they helped you pick out some good replacements. I imagine predicting hatch rates is not an exact science.

Some of those broodies get so mean, don't they? We were having battles over the nesting boxes earlier this week. The others were trying to climb on top of the two broodies we have and lay their eggs. The others were just screaming because they wanted to lay eggs in the same nest boxes. I have 8 nest boxes and they were only taking up two but for some reason the others had to use the same two that the broody girls were in. Now that they are in the broody cages, it is sooooo much quieter!

How are yours doing? How many are laying now? I can't remember, but are both your EE's laying now? Sounds like you're doing great to have just started out this year.

Hello guys...

My USPS status says that my order left the transport station close to me at 7:53am, and said guaranteed delivery by 3pm. I have never had that happen with my orders before, I've always got a call first thing in the morning to come and get the chickys. So it leaves me wondering if they are going to sit on some truck somewhere until they make it to my post office in the morning, or they will be getting to the post office this afternoon sometime. I think I am going to go down there and find out what they know. Who needs them sitting on a truck overnight. .and won't that get hot!

Also I have a question for those of you with Exchequer Leghorns, do any of you have them in cold weather climates? I know they are a Mediterranean breed, and was wondering if they could survive winters in mid New York State area. I am 90 miles north of NYC... so not like Buffalo, but still cold nonetheless. Also, how are their personalities? Wondering if they are super skittish.

Tick, tock, Tick, tock. Tick tockkkkkkkkkk

Come on little box... arrive at my house!!!!!!!!!!!!
