This is how she looks now:

Just checked the Meyer's site, was hoping one of these would be available for my next order the 1st of May, but sadly no hens are available. I have to have one of these beautiful birds one of these days.

We thought we lost a chicken yesterday. One of our EE's was missing while we were working in the garden. We looked everywhere. They were all free ranging with us at the time and we did not hear any chirping anywhere and our dog was not going crazy. I'm sure our dog would have noticed her wandering around. We looked for a good 10 minutes, counting chickens, checking the coop, the run, the woods, I was starting to get worried and sad. I was trying to remind myself that it was just a chicken, but I was thinking how beautiful my little Maddie was becoming with her unique Easter Egg coloring. My husband said "maybe she is under one of the buckets", so I looked under a yellow bucket and there she was, she was so happy I saved her, she actually let me pet her. She is one of mine that does not like to be touched. We have a security system installed at our house and we watched the tape to see what happened. All of them like to take off flying when they free range and Maddie flew up with them and decided to land on the buckets edge and somehow flipped it over on top of her. She was in there 30 minutes total. We actually passed by the bucket many times too and never realized. So funny now looking back and watching the video!!! I am so happy that she is okay!! That was so scary, I didn't realize how attached I've become.

Thank goodness you found her!! And the camera system sounds like it will be a lifesaver. You're so lucky to have that.
And my EE's don't like to be touched either!! Maybe it's a personality thing. I stopped trying because they get so freaked out it's like I'm torturing them.
You have less than a month for your next order! Wow, that seemed to fly by.

It's supposed to be sunny and 70 degrees Mon and Tues so I'm going to take them out to the run for their first outing!! Should be fun. Although I'm nervous about trying to catch them all when it's time to go back inside.
We're (as in my husband) is still working on the roof and hopefully will have 1/2 finished by Sunday afternoon.

They'll enjoy going out. I am so glad it is starting to warm up. Good to know that I am not the only one with unsociable EE's. They do act like I am going to kill them each time I go to touch them, The BR's, Dominique, BO and Blue Cochin are my friendly ones. Good luck with their 1st outing, if they are like mine they won't stray too far since it is all new to them. It's good you'll have a coop finished soon, it's great to have a handy husband too.

I think I need to enter rehab, I added another chick to my order. On my 1st order I had a Golden Laced Wyandotte, but it was one of the ones that was DOA. When I placed the replacement order, they didn't have any and it was one that I really wanted. Well, I checked yesterday and they had some available again, so I added one. So I have 9 chicks coming, I am crazy!!!!

Ahhh... chicken math at it's best!! You're so lucky you can have so many!!! I may have to give some away depending on how they are in the coop. But I'll wait to see. And I was assuming I'd have a roo or 2 that's I would have to re-home. Time will tell.
I'm so glad you're getting one you really want - Although - maybe you should add 2 of those just in case??? What's one more, right?
I ordered 2 of the breeds that I really really wanted just in case one died or one was a roo. Just a thought.

I ended up with 9 somehow, too. It was supposed to be 7 to make my flock an even 40, and then one of my beloved hens passed away, so I added two chicks. Chicken math at its finest.

You just have beautiful chickens, so of course they're winning pics! That's a lot of chickens! I wish I could have so many.

Nancy- I was really tempted to order 2 Golden Laced Wyandottes, but I was strong and resisted! I am limited to 20 and I was expecting some of the first to be roosters, but looks like they are all hens. Of course, I used that same reasoning of thought for the next batch of chicks. I will be up to 22, so I will have to figure out something if these are all hens too. Of course, I need to find a home for any roosters as well. Oh well, I will worry about those problems when they arrive. One step at a time. Luckily for me, Meyers has a limited supply of chicks for the April 29th hatch date, otherwise I might be in even more trouble. My husband doesn't care tho, he is worse then me and told me to order even more. He figures the shipping cost does not go up so get as many as you can.
