Meyer Hatchery Chicken pics anyone??

You've got your Welsummer and Light Brown Leghorn switched, Lynn. Izzie is your Welly and Wilma is your LB Leghorn. Welsummers seem to be more reddish, and Leghorns have larger combs. :) I don't have any experience with Polish, but from what little I've seen around BYC, Elvis has pretty feminine lacing and I believe her crest looks girly as well. Males usually have a spikier crest, while females have a more round one like hers.

And on a different note, I'm not sure if I posted these here or not, but my 2012 Meyer girls turned a year old yesterday. :D

Frou-Frou, my beloved blue splash Marans:

Thanks! Those 2 keep confusing me. Happy 1st year to your chicks and your chickening adventure!

Here are pics of my 6 week old chicks. If anyone has any guesses on the polish, if she is a boy or girl, please let me know what you think. I think all the rest are girls. Also, my daughter, who owns the polish, has decided that her name is no longer Zorro, it is Elvis.

Elvis (formally Zorro) Golden Laced Polish - she's the one I am not sure is a hen or rooster, but no signs of acting like a rooster so hopefully a hen

Lynn- They are so cute!!
What are you feeding them in the container? Oatmeal?

Mine are so funny/picky. They love grapes but not blueberries. Love cabbage but not lettuce. Love tomatoes hate brussel sprouts.
I sprout wheat for them in a jar and they love that. And of course their BOSS and dried meal worms.

Any egg song or squatting yet??

Thanks, but it's been a little more than 8 years now since I started chickening.

Those were my first birds from Meyer, though.
Sorry about that, I should have known since you know so much about chickens already. Happy B-Day to your Meyers girls again! Where did you get your other chickens? Your very first ones too?

I have been feeding them wet food every morning, that's what's in the container. They think the wet food is so much better then the dry for some reason, it is like a treat for them. It is funny that you ask that now since I just stopped feeding them the wet food this morning. They have their area in the run where their food is kept separate, but they are getting so big that they are having trouble fitting into their area, so I am trying to slowly get them to eat with the big girls. They still have some dry food in their little area. So step by step.

Mine act picky too with some of the stuff I feed them, lettuce is one of the things and red bell peppers. I gave them some last night and they tried it but didn't seem to like it. I left it in the run overnight and it was all gone. They love tomatoes and strawberries though!

I was thinking of sprouting some seeds for them too. One of these days!

No eggs yet, but they sure are fussy, but no egg song either. Although I am not sure what that sounds like. I have a feeling with the nice weather here now that they'll lay one soon.

Not a problem. :D My first chickens actually came from a farm and we suspect that they tried to dump a bunch of roosters on us because we literally only got one hen from that lot. We have gotten most of our birds from TSC, as well as a few from one of my mom's coworkers who decided she didn't want chickens after all. My Sebrights came from a swap meet, and they will be the last adult birds I ever add to my flock (just my personal preference). And then in 2011 we got some barred Plymouth Rocks and 'Americanas' (Easter-eggers) from a very local, Amish-run hatchery.

I don't think I will ever go back to feed store chicks, mostly because I've found that feed store chicks are a lot harder to tame than straight-from-hatchery chicks. As Meyer's is the only hatchery in driving distance with so many different breeds available, and I have had two good experiences with them so far, I think that they will have my business for the foreseeable future. :)
