Meyer Hatchery Chicken pics anyone??

I placed another order for 9/30 and got a blue splash marans, golden cuckoo marans and cuckoo marans. I actually got the last golden cuckoo! I'm very happy I didn't wait till tomorrow to place the order.

Oh wow! That's great! I have a few years to wait before I can order some marans, so jealous!

I wonder what colored egg Cleo will lay? All of your EE's are so colorful and different, I wish I got more then two. It looks like Pipsqueak finally feathered out pretty good. You're going to have a variety of colors with your eggs. Did you get any white egg layers? I so want a maran for the dark eggs.

Thank you- yes, all EE's are very different but I love the buff colored ones that seem to be typical for EE's. Maybe that's more the ones from breeders. I assumed one or 2 would look like that. But I like them all and can't wait for colored eggs. We'll see what we get. Long time away for EE's to lay I'm sure.
I have no white egg layers. Silly me. NEXT time!!!

I may have to try some Meyer EEs and see if I get one like her! Also, I think Stella looks lovely with her snowy/buff mixed look, though it probably isn't good as far as the quality of their Brahmas. I wonder if they had a rooster hop a fence or something?

Thank you- she is still changing in color. I didn't even realize until I saw her pic that her head is getting a bit of salmon in it like her chest. I just can't figure out what she'll look like when she full grown.
I think Stella is pretty but Buff Brahma were the ones I wanted the most; and my mother too. She named them both. One turned out to be a roo and the other is half white half buff. Figures!
I love the buff color and should have gotten 1 Buff Orp. Next time...
Your new girls and boys are getting so big already. Can't wait to see the Exchequer Leghorn fully grown. They are cool looking!!

I think my earliest layers will be my RIR's... I can't wait to hear when your RIRs lay so then I know about how many weeks old mine will be!! Hopefully they saw what happened yesterday and get the message that they should do the same

Yes! There was another egg on the floor in the coop. It was there when I went out this morning. This one was a little softer shelled and it had a couple really tiny peck holes in it. I cooked it and fed it to Maxie, our Chow. She was so happy. I cooked up the other one from yesterday for my husband and he had it on a biscuit that my son made. He said it was delicious! Here are pics of the egg cracked open and cooked.

I did a side by side with a store bought EB egg, so you can see the difference in yolk coloring. The yolk is so much richer in yellow and the white is so think. The egg from yesterday had a good thick shell and was hard to crack. The one from today was so much thinner. I guess she is adjusting still. The 2nd egg was also 1.2 ounces.

I had to separate my last post, these pics were not loading...

Also, I went back out to fix up the nest boxes for Snow and all the other chickens. I added a couple clean old t-shirts of my husbands to a couple of the nest boxes to maybe encourage laying in the proper place. When I went in the coop I saw this in the same corner where Snow laid her 1st egg. I was wondering how Snow could possibly lay 3 eggs in 2 days and it was not there at 7 am. I thought maybe it had a green tint.




It was green! One of my Easter Eggers, Maddie is already laying eggs? I thought they took longer? She has been acting pretty crazy lately. I did hear a lot of chicken noises around 10 am too, I guess that was her. I need remember to go out every time I hear them yelling.


I can't believe they laid their eggs just a day apart. I am so excited!!!

Another side by side with a store egg, to show the size difference, this one is also 1.2 ounces. The shell is strong on this one too.



This is so much fun! It is so exciting to get up in the mornings and go to the coop now. It was before, but so much more fun and rewarding now.

I have 4 nest boxes, that so far nobody uses yet.

Four is supposed to be enough for 20 birds. I have 19 hens now. 20 is my limit.

Your egg yolk is so orange it's amazing. The eggs I get from my neighbor aren't that orange and I wonder if its because she doesn't free range. I don't either but hopefully if I give them worms, veggies, weeds, grass etc mine will be more orange?? Not sure.

I wonder if Izzy ( EE) will lay on the early side because her face has been red and staying red for a few days. My BR, RIR and Izzy have a red face but no comb growth yet. I know I'm at least 4 weeks away but I'm already egg sited!

Maybe Izzy will lay early? That sounds like how Maddie started. Now if she lets you start petting her and she squats, probably so.

Congratulations on all of the eggs Lynn! It's always so exciting to find those first eggs! Don't be discouraged about the nest boxes. I had the same thing with my 4 pullets that were hatched last summer. At first they were laying them everywhere but the nest boxes. With time my girls did end up laying their eggs in the nest boxes, so hopefully yours do too!

I can't remember who all commented on my coop set up, but thank you! Last year I wasn't prepared for intergrating new chicks into my adult flock, and it didn't go very well... I didn't have a place to keep them until they were almost fully grown, so I ended up having to put my chicks from last year into the coop with all of my adult birds when they were only 5 weeks old. I ended up having to hand feed them an lift water up onto the roosts so they didn't starve or dehydrate. I didn't want that to happen again, so that's why I divided my coop. This way I can wait until my Meyer girls are 4 months old before I put them into the adult coop, and it won't matter!
