Meyer Hatchery Chicken pics anyone??

I've been trying for the dorking for months now. I've yet to see any dates open up, have you?

Kalalyn21- what are you getting?

My original order was 5 FBCM and a meal maker, thought why not make it an even 10 and added 4 rare egg layer assortment. Kinda excited for the surprise.

I have to say I love to bring my girls a bunch of grass and then just sit there and watch them get all excited about it! They are sooo cute! Can't believe they will be 8 weeks on Monday! Will have to post some new pics! :) I'm excited for the stage when I'll be able to open up that nestbox and watch for the first egg. I've got a long ways to go though....

Lynn, congrats on getting another egg!

Our BR, Marble, is a laying machine! 10 eggs out of 11 days!

Had to share a funny moment that only you guys will understand...

I just went out to give the girls some grapes. I noticed Marble was in the nest box. I sat down and started handing out grapes. The little ones were really excited and kept stealing them from under the big girls. Our BA looked at the grapes but was much more interested in the cheese I was eating. She pecked at the grapes a couple times but didn't eat any of them. Then Marble finished laying her egg and flew out of the coop and over to the grapes so fast and started wolfing them down! No egg song, not even a peep! She was focused! lol
Once she started eating the BA suddenly took an interest in the grapes and ate some. It was like, "Oh, Marble likes these, then I guess they must be good". Marble is definitely the head chicken!

YAY on the egg!!! But that water sure is angry looking. I have a stream behind my house as well but it's at the bottom of a big hill so it doesn't threaten us. Our only problem is the underground stream that runs directly under our house. Our basement floods something horrible with prolonged rains. The hurricane 2 years ago was an absolute nightmare and if it wasn't for our sump pump and generator (we lost power for a week) the water in the basement would have reached our 1st floor. I understand the destruction of water.

I'll be happy to post more pics!!

Her comb/wattles are getting a bit bigger but still very flesh colored. But she's looking a bit more mature.
We've had our basement flooded a few times. Actually our problem with the basement was bad landscaping and so far fixing the ground around the house has helped. Now we need to figure out how to stop the water draining from the house and road from going directly to the chicken run. That's great that you have a sump pump in your basement, but with the power going out, not good. That water almost reached the 1st floor at your house? Wow. Does sound like a nightmare!

I bet one of your hens will squat for you soon, just keep trying, just go to rub their backs and see if they do it.

Here is our flock of six almost 22 week olds enjoying some fresh mowed grass. They do love it.

Wow your chicks are almost 8 weeks already? Gosh, time flies!

Cute story! They always want what the other one has too. Mine fought over 3 grapes when I gave them 7 of them, they ignored the ones on the ground and only wanted what the others had. Chickens are funny!

My girls are not happy campers today. Every time I opened up the coop door to go in or out they would all come racing forward and try to sneak past my legs. Keeping them in the coop is going to be hard. I sure wish our landlord had asked us before he gave someone the okay to spray around all of the buildings in our yard with weed killer. :/

I'm practically counting down the days until I can let them out again.

So sorry, I know it is frustrating to have to keep them in. Mine get much less free range time too because of my fear of more stray dogs. At least I can let them out when I am home though. It'd be hard for me too. I wish I could send some of our heavy rains your way to wash the area for you.

Hang in there!

I was thinking of some ways to keep your girls busy while they are locked up and have you thought about buying some crickets and letting them search for them in the coop. Or dig up some dirt (unsprayed area of course) and mix some worms in there. I've also heard great things about the treat blocks. Hopefully this week goes by fast and the girls don't drive you crazy.
