Meyer Hatchery Chicken pics anyone??

Lol sorry, I prob shouldn't be trying to have a conversation when I first wake up.

We are in serious need of some storage space so I ordered a 10x16 side lofted barn so instead of hubby building a coop (which he wasn't really going for) we are making it our coop/shed. It was more than I wanted to spend but it's great quality and in a couple years we will be moving (finally!!) and they can move it pretty cheap plus I know the guy and his wife and he said when they move it we can put some of our furniture in there so that saves us from having to get a pod.
It should be here the end of the month, I will def post some pics.

Plus next year I can put the brooder in there and I won't have to have the chicks in the house. And after having chicks in my house since April I think I would pay the $6000 just to get them out lol

Maybe they don't want the other chickens egg in there. Yesterday when I got the eggs Ash's egg and Olivia's was in one box, but Olivia's egg was pushed to the edge. If I did not have a wooden edging on the nest, it would have been pushed out.
I am getting it narrowed down and I have a list for each color and the possible breeds. I may actually still have a Golden Campine, not sure yet. I'll post pics so you all can see. She is speckled and I believe she looks like one too. They either gave me two or the one that died was actually a Sicilian Buttercup, which is a speckled one too.
Any day now, you'll get one!

It is so much fun watching the little ones run around and I am enjoying trying to figure out what they are. Your turn soon!

When you said buttercup that reminded me that that's what I thought our chick was that died, not a campine.

It's always when you least expect it!! I was shocked when I saw my first egg in the nest. They were squatting but it was still a surprise, you think it's just never going to happen.

Are you going to do the processing or take them somewhere to have it done? I have never had fresh/home grown chicken but would love to try it. I just wouldn't want to do the plucking of the feathers.
Also, can you line the nest box with something soft or staple a few old shirts/rags in there then put the shavings on top? I bought a bale of straw and now use both shavings and straw. I think the straw is harder to move around as much and it sort of stays put in a nest like shape.

Agreed. Ours was a surprise even though we were expecting it. We have a mix of shavings and straw in there. I agree the straw holds it's shape better. The old t-shirts are a great idea. I have a ton of scrap fabric I could use. Now that they are actually laying in there and not sleeping in them, they should stay fairly clean.

It def looks like a campine! I'd say yes. And I already figured out that pearl is gonna lay when I'm at my parents house next month for a week or so.

And I'm sorry Lynn but I'm dying laughing over here trying to picture your hubby chase and try to catch 25 chicks. You def have a keeper!

On a side note I'm going to order my barn today!! I'm super excited but hubby still can't believe I'm spending $6000 on a barn and isn't all that thrilled but I never get anything for myself so I deserve it

I knew we'd get more eggs when we went out of town, and we did!
I figured the story would give people a laugh. I can't imagine how he managed it.

Well, a couple chicks had poopy butts today, so I'll be watching for that more. It's hard to watch 16 chicks. The Wellie and I think the BA or another one that looks like a BA needed their bottoms cleaned.

The Wellsummer is so tiny, she's the smallest chick, but very, very active more then the last one I had. She seemed to feel better after I washed her.

I have a few narrowed down to what they might be, I guess when the feathers come in I will be able to tell for sure. My orange one looks more like a Buckeye or a RIR then a Golden Buff, I hope it is a Buckeye.

The extra brown one is either a Golden Cuckoo Maran, which would be awesome or a Partridge Rock which I'd love to have too.

The black ones could be a large variety of ones available from marans to any of the blue breeds since sometime they produce black chicks. Also any of the black breeds.

The splash ones any of the blue breeds or some of the marans.

Sorry to keep talking about my chicks, this is fun though, the guessing game.

I was thinking your orange chick was too orange to be a sexlink. You can determine if she is a RIR or a Buckeye by checking out her comb. Buckeyes are pea combed, so comparable to the Easter-eggers, while RIRs are single combed and should have a very, very small single comb. Also, you probably have a Partridge Rock because Golden Cuckoo Marans chicks are black with the spot on their heads like the silver Cuckoo Marans, with maybe a slight brownish tint to their fluff.

Thanks, I think I see a single comb, but won't be positive for a few more days, it's still so small. The wings are coming in more white/buff looking. She also looks a lot like my Buff Orpington as a chick. So I think not a RIR since the wings coming in look buff to white. , Guess time will tell.

You're probably right about the Partridge Rock, that's another chicken I wanted anyway, so thats good. I don't really need many more brown egg layers, but they are such beautiful chickens.

When I put the girls to bed last night I found egg whites in one of the nest boxes so I was getting worried I had an egg eater. I cleaned out all the nest boxes and refilled with shavings and straw.
I was determined to sit out there with them this morning and watch them to see what was going on.

I picked a good day for it. 2 of my EE's, Mrs. Puff and Cleo, were singing the egg song like crazy and I had never seen that before from them so maybe some eggs from them soon?
Then Henrietta, my BR, was chatting up a storm and finally she went in the nest box and sat and sat. Of course Izzy had to join her in the same nest box and 1/2 hour later they both came out and I had a beautiful large cream colored egg from my BR (her first one!)

and a green one from Izzy. Seriously, 4 other nest boxes and they both laid their egg in the same one!

I'm so glad I picked today to hang with them. Now, I have a ton of work/errands to do that I didn't do this morning so I'm off. Hopefully no more egg whites in the nest.

I can't wait to see it too!! 6 weeks of chicks in the house was enough for me too!! Oh, the dust!!!!

You're not talking about them to much... I love to hear about them! Since we're one big flock anyway on this thread

I forgot how hard it is the firs week or so when they have poopy butts. You really have to stay on top of it and it's worrisome as well.

I really wanted to eventually get an EE roo of my own, maybe adopt a nice mannered one from someone who accidentally ended up with one in their pullets. But alas, it seems it is not meant to be. Even though my 8 'pullet' chicks are not quite 3 weeks old yet, I can pretty clearly tell that one is a roo. And it is the breed I was least interested in having a roo of; a Buff Orpington! LOL But it seems fate is determined to change my mind. Just wish I ended up with a different roo breed.

Lynn: That definitely looks like a Campine! I'm glad that you still have her. One of my Campines was very energetic when she was young as well, and she never grew out of it. My other Campine is more laid back, but she still doesn't like people and she's still flighty.

Sunni is back to eating only from a syringe again. She was doing really well with eating on her own, and then she just stopped. We think it may be because she was getting sick of scrambled eggs, but it's hard to tell. She still tries to eat the dry crumbles that are always out for the other girls, but she can't ever swallow more than a few pieces. She still isn't drinking on her own either. I don't know what we are going to do if she doesn't ever eat on her own. She hates being syringe fed, and she squirms and sends good flying everywhere. I can't imagine having to syringe feed her 3 times a day for the rest of her life.

Nancy- the dust is crazy! I already have a parrot and a cockatiel in the room and the dust was already a bit much but now that the silkies are with them too the dust is beyond crazy. I dust twice a week and it looks like I haven't dusted in weeks! When everyone moves out I'm deep cleaning that whole room, it's on desperate need!

Chickenmamma- I'm sorry about Sunni, how long ago did she try to eat the wasp? I hope she gets better really soon cause I'm sure feeding her 3 times a day is hard on both of you

My dopey died last night hallways acted funny wasn't sure of breed either held before went to bed
